Symptoms of an Allergy - Sorry If TMI
Tonight when I put my daughters bed time diaper on the whole area around her hiney hole is red, it's like a perfect circle. Is this an allergic reaction to something? Gabby has a sensitivity to something in the chocolate family. I've noticed a touch of blotchiness around her eye. It always goes away and Gabby never itches her eyes or anything when it appears. Today it happened while eating a mini-chocolate donut from Starbucks. I've asked her doctor about it and he has always said to keep an eye on her but if it doesn't bother her or PRESENT itself on the back end then not to worry. i'm going to call him tomorrow. There are NO food allergies in either of our families. I am allergic to everything else but never food.
I'm going to put diaper rash cream on it as well. it doesn't look like typical diaper rash but i want to cover all my bases.

Babies have such sensitive skin, that it could be almost anything. I would be careful to keep the area clean and dry, and apply some diaper cream. She may just have an irritation from the diaper and wetness, but she also could have some burning due to acidic stool (check what else she is eating...acid/fruit) or she may have been gassy and let out some small amounts of stool which irritated her. Sounds "creepy" but if you aren't going to see the doctor right away you might want to take a photo of the irritated area so that you can show the doctor what the rash looks like when you see him. Hope you have a great weekend! B.

Sorry is this is TMI too, but little one's hiney's get sweaty. They can get chafing.
The absolute best, tried and true thing I found with my kids was to air their rear ends out at much as possible.
If you suspect a certain food, don't give it anymore. Reduce any possible culprits.
Keep in mind that diapers do not breathe well and air is a must.
Just my opinion.

If it's just red, not rash-y, I've noticed this on kids when they are constipated. I would check again in the morning and then talk with your doctor if it's still there.

That sounds like it *could* be a Staph infection. :-( Been there, done that. Not fun.
The best thing that I found (MUCH more effective & safer than the Rx antibiotic ointment...and much cheaper too) is Manuka Honey from the health food store. I just put some on a q-tip & applied it at each diaper change. Worked like a charm.
Incidentally, this honey can be used as a first aid ointment for cuts, scrapes, burns, etc.... for the rest of the family too!

When my daughter was 2 - she had a reaction to chocolate - she got bloody noses. It was horrible and fast...turns out it wasn't chocolate, but caffeine.
It's entirely possible she is having a reaction to chocolate...that the rash is a perfect circle is weird..but stuff happens.
