OK-

My son is six months old and has been on Nutramigen since he was three months. At his six month check-up I asked the pedi if we could change and she said try Gentlease for a week and see if you notice a change..Well, it has been four days and he has been fussier....My question is how long should I wait? Any pointers on what I should do? He does not seem to be in pain just fussy...He is not spitting any more than usual....I just don't know what to do. HELP!

What can I do next?

Our son is now 2 1/2, and we went through 7 (that's right...7) different formulas because he was spitting up so much! His brother, who is 16 now, did just fine with Good Start, but had violent vomiting with both Enfamil and ProSobee. Don't give up...but if you want to stay with the Gentlease, do try mixing it with the Nutramigen a little at a time. If your son is having other symptoms like taking "power naps" and not sleeping through the night, he might have an autism spectrum disorder (ASD). Our son is not autistic, but he is in the spectrum, so I am doing a lot of research on it right now, and talking to other moms who are going through the same thing. Please let us know how your son is doing! My email is ____@____.com, if you want to talk some more. GOOD LUCK!!

Our daughter was on Nutramigen until she was 8mos. old and then we switched her to Soy formula and it seemed to help. Are you wanting to switch him because of the cost? It may be worth your sanity to just leave him on it for a little while longer. However, if he is not in pain it may be that he is just adjusting to the new formula. I wish you the best.

I think that it would be easier on him if you started mixing the formula for a while. Try one ounce of Gentlease to every bottle to this for 5-7 days then go two ounces and so on until he is just on the Gentlease. I know when I switched my daughter from breastmilk to formula at 10 months that is what my doctor told me to do. I did the same when I was switching her to whole milk. I would probably use a soy base formula as well because if he is allergic to milk then a milk base formula would not be good on his little tummy.

My suggestion is Soy formula. Gentelase has milk proteins in it. Stop that and do soy. That is what we did.
