Swine Flu Vaccine - Little Elm,TX

I was just wondering what other moms felt about the new swine flu vaccine. Vaccines in general seem to be kind of contreversial and I'm not 100 percent sure how I feel about them, but this vaccine has barely been tested and makes me very nervous. What do you think about it? Even if someone gets infected with swine flu, aren't there options for treating it? Is this just another shot to prevent a virus you MIGHT get infected with, but the shot itself could be more harmful than the illness? Just wanted some opinions...thanks!

What can I do next?

I'm not one to avoid or delay vaccines. My son gets vaccinated on time at his well checks. They do serve their purpose and prevent horrible diseases. I usually get the regular flu vaccine, and it does work well for me. However, I'm kind of leery about such a new vaccine. I've heard bad things about the last time they rushed to get a swine flu vaccine back in the 70's, and even though technology has changed, I don't want to be a guinea pig. I'm pregnant, and they are all saying that pregnant women are a top priority. But, I'm not going to get vaccinated. Because I'm pregnant and have another life to think about is the biggest reason I don't want to get it. Maybe in the future when they've figured out all the "kinks", but right now I'm saying no.

Hi S.,

Check out www.nvic.org. Barbara Loe Fischer is the co-founder and president of the national vaccine information center. She is an advocate of informed consent rights and an amazing source of information regarding the subject. There are a couple great videos you can watch where she discusses the science, reality, and nuts and bolts of the issue. Have a great day!

I'm not anti-vaccine because I do understand the need for vaccines.

I usually get the flu vaccine and will get it this year but I will not get the swine-flu vaccine, nor will my daughter or husband.

The chicken pox vaccine was less than 1 year old when daughter got that vaccine. When she 1as 10 she had a mild case of chicken pox. Now, they have a booster shot for chicken pox.

We are strongly debating the Guardisil vaccine at this time. My pedi and ob/gyn recommend that my daughter get this, however, I have heard some horror stories, so many pros and cons regarding this issue.

These decisions are tough and you just have to do what is right for you and your family and not worry about what others think or say.

I agree with the other moms here. I am also pro vaccine. My kids get theirs on schedule and we all do the flu vaccine each year. I have also had the pneumonia vaccine. All have worked great for us. BUT I feel that the swine flu vaccine has been rushed and I'm just not comfortable with getting it or giving it to my kids. Mother's instinct ? We will not be getting it this year.

I'm also pro vaccine even the flu one. However
I will wait on this one. Swine flu is just the flu not an epidemic
that some make it out to be.

I just had this same conversation with some moms at the park. I am not anti vaccine, but I think we will not get this vaccine. It seems rushed and I do not feel comfortable allowing my family to act as guinea pigs. Instead we will wash hands and be careful.
