Swine Flu Shot to Get It or Not for My Baby

My son is 6 and 1/2 months old so he's bearly old enough to get it but his ped recomended that he does. He hasn't had much luck with vaccinations. With his 2 month vacs he got ear infections, fever, sick, all that good stuff but more then normal and for weeks. At his 4 month check up he got his vacs that morning by that night he had a fever he was puking diahreha I couldn't put him down for a second he got to the point where he wouldnt eat because he knew that he was going to threw it up this went on for five days. I kept calling the dr and they kept telling me it was normal. Friday night I called and it was after hours at his dr's office so the childrens hospital was on call. So when they finally called me back they told me that he shouldn't of had a fever this long and he shouldn't be puking at all and I needed to leave and take him to the emergency room right away. When that was over I learned He also had ear infections so bad they gave him two shots of antibiotics before I left the hospital. When that all cleared up he continued vomiting for two months. So at his six month check up I made his dr spread out his vaccines one at a time he has got two so far and guess what I have a really sick baby just like before imagine that. So I really don't want him to get the flu shot or the swine flu shot just because what if he reacts to one of those but on the other hand if he got either of those i would feel bad. But the swine flu is treatable. and when you get the flu shot you just get the flu and build up a immunity to it so it would be the same if he got it by himself would it not!! I have seen where the flu shot has caused lots of bad things so idk I need some opinions to help me with one.

I agree with you, it would just be the same as giving him the flu. My husband got the swine flu and neither of my daughters or I did. It was just a flu with a high fever and cough. But why give it to him intentionally?

Never get your baby vaccinated again until you read this article : Type in Google " Dr. Blaylock Danger of Excessive Vaccination During Brain Development " And read every last word. It will explain soooooo much that has gone on PLUS a lot of things that you have heard of going on with other children reacting to vaccines. Please, everyone who sees this, read and judge for yourself. Connect the dots.

I would never in a million years get the swine flu shot or any other shot ever again. My aunt got a swine flu shot in 1976 and got Gillain Barre Shndrom and has been paralyzed ever since. I was basically coerced into getting a flu shot while 6 months pregnant and within 24 hours my baby went into fetal distress, shut down metabolically and was brain damaged. She never grew another ounce and was born prematurely and is now severely autistic. That shot (like most flu shots) is loaded with mercury, aluminum, formaldehyde, diseased animal tissue, viruses....why would anyone want that in their child or themselves? Flu shots don't even work most of the time. I never get them for my kids or myself and we never get the flu. Everyone I know who get the shot gets sick almost immediately. The FluMist nasal vaccine is almost worse. It's a live virus vaccine and the virus is shed for up to 3 weeks after, infecting everyone around you. Lord help anyone who gets on a plane after someone has been vaccinated with FluMist! The best thing to do is keep the immune system strong by giving Vitamin D3. They make drops for babies and kids. 10,000 iu per day during flu season. 15,000 iu for adults. Very cheap and easy to do. Most people are deficient and those who die of the flu are almost always deficient in Vitamin D. Skip the vaccines and get some Vitamin D!

Please take the CLUES your little one is giving you. My response to drs., "I don't trust the FDA." I watched my granddaughter go from talking almost full sentences at 2 yrs. to not hardly speaking at all and now has learning disabilities following receiving her vaccines. Don't let big business pressure you into doing something you may not want to do. If my own girls are going to receive any type of vaccine it will be after they are 5 yrs. old when their bodies and nervous system have had a chance to mature somewhat.

If your son has already had several bad reactions to vaccines, please do NOT let him be vaccinated for anything else at this time...especially not swine flu, which is probably not going to be as serious an outbreak as the hype would have you believe. Plus, the vaccine itself contains heavy metal derivatives, which you DON'T want injected into the undeveloped nervous system of a baby.

Classical homeopathy has outstanding solutions to bad vaccination reactions and can often reverse any long-term adverse effects. It also offers ways to strengthen your child's vital force and immune system so that he is less likely to be susceptible to major diseases in the future. Feel free to call or e-mail if you want more info...I see you are in a neighboring town.

Your child is vaccine injured. To be giving him shots when he is having ear infections is not good and your doctor should know that. Please stop ALL shots and do the research. You need to get him healthy again and he is so young that you have a very good chance of reversing any damage that has been done so far.

Please take your baby to a doctor that will know what to do. Dr. Robert Sears has been mentioned a few times here and is located in South Orange County. Another good pediatrician is Dr. Lin in Irvine. For other recommendations of doctors, go to http://autism.com/dan/danusdis.htm

I would also remove all dairy, wheat, egg, and soy from your baby's diet (and yours if you are nursing) as these are very common allergans and could be the main reason for your son's ear infections. My daughter's started off as egg, dairy, and soy and then the list grew as we continued vaccinations. Probiotics, omega 3s, Vitamin D3, and the antioxidants are going to be important for him to get healthy again. Going to a DAN doctor is going to help you with this.

Please make sure YOU have done the research on vaccinations for YOUR child. The AAP recommended schedule of shots for children is too many, too soon. Here are sites and books that I always recommend for people to start their research:

Wow... based on your son's history and presenting symptoms, I too would seriously question the efficacy and safety of the swine flu vaccine. I can imagine how fearful you must feel at the prospect of any vaccination seeing how seriously ill your son gets.
I would consider consulting with a Naturapath Doctor, which I ultimately ended up doing in the case of my own son and his health challenges after exhausting all avenues with Western medicine alone. Clearly there is a time and a place for Western medicine, but it sure could stand to be complemented by a more holistic approach.
I wish you and your son the best of luck and health as you navigate this decision.

I would absolutely trust your own instincts here and NOT get the swine flu shot or the flu shot. In addition I would seek out other pediatrician who seem to understand how badly your son reacts to vaccines. Those are not typical reactions and I think you should heed the warning signs. I don't know where you live but if you are in la I would email dr jay Gordon for his advice or rec on a new dr. My girlfriends son had a bad vaccine response and he recommended she stop vaccinating at least for awhile. Hope thus helps.

It sounds like another vax is a guaranteed problem for your son. If my son had the same reactions to the chemicals and metals found in the vaccines, I would take my chances with the flu.

I understand with so much media coverage that the swine flu is getting, it seems pretty daunting. But from what I'm hearing, the people who are having serious problems with this flu generally have a pre-existing condition and would have had the same problems with any other strain of the flu.

Please do some research on vaccinations and the ingredients in them. I recommend the book by Dr. Sears, I think its called the Vaccine Book. So much good info, and actually lists what the ingredients are for each manufacturer. You already know that your son is adversely affected by the shots, so you may be able to request a different type of vax that has fewer metals or chemicals. Or, you can wait and give his little body time to grow, then he will be able to tolerate the shots when he is older, and you can space them out over time.

I really hope you stop vaccinating all together till you son turns at least 2 years old. His body and immune system are trying to tell u that they are too weak yet for heavy shots and medicines.Once he is 2 you should also consider spreading them if you choose to still vaccinate. Please seek alternatives!!! Those are very bad reactions....and please consider changing doctors! Bad reactions are NOT normal...unfortunately they are common...but NOT normal. There's a difference. If you are in my area and interested in more info, doctor recommendations etc...I'd be more than happy. Good luck!

This is a very personal decision. Personally I believe you should NOT give your baby these vaccines - either of them. If you are an attentive mother, you will be very aware of anything wrong (i.e. flu symptoms) and respond quickly. There is too much mercury in these vaccines and your baby is too little, with a predispostion toward getting sick after.

Please don't..... my two cents.

Doctors are human and must be questioned. Sounds like you already know what to do. You ARE the MOM. You're the one who knows whats best and was there for your baby when it all went bad. You've been through other vaccanations and sounds like its not the best. I had similar reactions when I was a baby and had to be hospitalized. I never got sick until my mom did vacs. My mom stopped the vacs and guess what....I lived. I am now a healthy adult. It's okay to tell the doctor NO! I remember my mom had to make up some vac dates for the schools...now it turns out there is an option that says you are against them or its against your religion or something like that. Nobody can make you get them. If I were you and with your babys reaction I wouldn't! Everyone is different. My sisblings didn't have a problem, but I did. Most of my kids have done fine. Just be aware and teach your child not to share food/germs and good hygine....clean hands and hands away from their face and mouth. I can tell in your heart you know you child should not get anymore vaccines. I support you!

Hi C.,

I am so sorry to hear about all the symptoms your son has experienced after being vaccinated! How horrible! I would have to agree with the others who say to "stick to your instincts" and NOT have him vaccinated for the Swine flu. I also HIGHLY recommend that you check out the website recommendations you've been given for more info. Another website to view would be www.askdrsears.com. Dr. William Sears & his 2 sons, Bob & Jim (Jim is on the tv show "the Doctors" at 11 am every weekday), have great advice for parents & you can e-mail them your question too. Their practice is in San Clemente, so maybe you can even make an appt. for your son to see them. My children are all adults now, but I have done a lot of research on nutrition & disease prevention over the last 9 yrs. & would definitely do things differently with them now after all I have learned. Your son appears to have a pretty fragile immune system, so anything you can do to strengthen it is going to help him tremendously. I would purchase organic veggies & fruits & puree them to make your own baby food for him. Produce has so many phytonutrients in them & they strengthen & protect our cells. This will strengthen his immune system. My family takes a product called Juice Plus+ (17 fruits, veggies & whole grains in a capsule)which Dr. Sears & his family take & recommend too. Dr. Sears has said that a portion of the capsule can be added to an infant's food too. If you want more info. on it, please check out: www.sheilalovesjuiceplus.com. Once I saw the peer-reviewed medical journals it had been published in & saw the results in my own health, I became an independent distributor for the company. Now when I give health lectures, I can also offer a simple & affordable solution to help make a difference in people's overall health. I am a "Mom on a Mission" to help others! Hello???? THOSE are vaccine reactions. Those should have been reported to the CDC, but I'm sure it probably wasn't. In fact, I had a friend whose son recently had a major vaccine reaction, but the doctor said it was coincidence and not related and refused to report it. She tried to go on the CDC site and the VAERS page is not working. She's tried for the past 10 days. Looks like it's working today.

Listen to your intuition for your own child. If something happens, you are going to kick yourself for not paying attention.

It's not so much the virus you need to worry about without or without the vaccine, it's the additives IN the vaccine.

I haven't followed everything in detail because we already made a decision to vaccinate my high risk daughter, but if you dig around a little on google, I think you'll find:

(1) a big concern in the medical community with this particular flu is that it is a virulent strain and children are getting hit the hardest because they have the fewest antibodies built up with time; and

(2) contrary to what the mama below said, it is not sickly kids dying. Look especially for a story on a young girl recently from San Diego. She had no underlying conditions and died.

I quizzed my pediatrician very pointedly on this vaccination because I am always careful about what I put in my precious daughter's body, and she was adamant that we get it. And it's not just my asthmatic daughter. If you call the office's main line, the office is emphatic that all patient's get vaccinated and they have changed their office voicemail recording regularly with updated messages on where to get the vaccination. If you trust your pediatrician, take the advice you were given. If you don't trust your pediatrician, find another one.

Hi C., I'm getting it for both my kids and my littlest is barely nine months. People are dying of swine flu, or suffering horribly with it, it's not treatable for everybody. The more people who are immunized against it the lower the risk for everybody. My Grandma lost her baby brother in the 1918 flu pandemic, imagine how people from that time would think about us having the opportunity to avoid all those deaths and not taking advantage of it. It sounds like you're against it and I'm certainly not trying to persuade anybody to do anything they don't want to but be informed. You asked for opinions. Swine flu is not treatable for everybody and I'm not taking that risk with my babies. Good luck making your decision and let us know what you decide. I know it's so sad to see them have reactions, my firstborn who's now two always had a hard time with vaccinations.

Hi:

You can eliminate or reduce the reaction your baby has to vaccines by first taking him to an NAET certified doctor. There are a lot of components to vaccines and often your child is allergic to some of the components used in the vaccine base. If you clear them for those ingredients you lessen the impact on your child's body at time of innoculation. Please feel free to consult with my NAET doctor, Dr. David Karaba at East West Medical Group in Fullerton ###-###-####, or any certified naet practitioner.

you are right... the swine flu is treatable, but it sounds like you also need to stimulate your son's immune system. I have chosen to not give my son ANY vaccines as with my research they dont work, are not thoroughly tested, are not safe and carry WAY too many risks. We have seen an increase in childhood cancer (formaldehyde which is one of the preservatives in all vaccines and a known carcinogenic); increase in allergies, asthma, leukemia, autism, the diseases are coming back in atypical forms (and not because of those of us not vaccinating... this started long before more parents stopped vaccinating). With the regular flu shot you are going to get the flu, but it's last year's strain so he could end up getting the flu of this year as well... sick twice, but only one will convey lifetime immunity... and it's no the tone that they created in a lab some place. I have had the flu one time in my life.... MANY years ago (so long ago I can't remember the exact year) and I have never had it again. I have been a teacher of the very young, middle school, high school, worked in a large tutoring facility, daycares, etc... around kids ALL the time and we know how they spread things.
Please reconsider vaccinating your son any further.. he is obviously one of those who has reactions to them and not to scare you, but the next one could do some serious damage such as encephalitis (swelling of the brain), permanent seizures, autism, or death. If I were you, I would also fill out and file the VAERS form. I believe it's available online, but is found in the back of the PDR. It's for parents to fill out when their child has a reaction to a vaccine. There are many lawsuits out there against the gov't for these vaccines. Good luck and feel free to email me if you have any questions.

DON'T GET IT!! PLEASE DO NOT.

Yes, the swine flu is a risk for all of us but relatively speaking, it is a very low risk for a healthy baby. But a baby who is having very bad reactions to shots SHOULD NOT BE RECIEVING ANY MORE. Any dr. who is familiar with the adverse reporting history of children with catastrophic outcomes after too many bouts with shot they were reacting too would know this. Your doctor does not know what they are doing and is one of those party line people who has zero practice at critical thinking. Do not listen to them.

Please. LIsten. There are thousands of mother's who have had permenantly damaged children because they didn't listen to their gut or common sense.

Tons of the additives in new shots have not be tested enough. This is no joke. It is not hype. it's a fact.

If anyone tells you 100%that shots are not causing problems in children, they have no idea what they are talking about. The best the government can say is that nothing has been proven yet. No on can say it's safe for sure.

It took more than 25 years of doctors and scientists saying that "no one can prove cigarettes are harmful to your health" before it was finally conclusive proven. Only years later when everyone is dead is the easy to prove. So please just think for yourself in this situation as these people cannot assure you of anything.

Please don't gamble with your childs health. Don't get any more shots. Do the research first. A highly reactive child is in danger.

answers from Las Vegas on

Hi C., here is my opinion on the matter. Every year I give my daughter the flu shot and she normally does not react to it, with the exception of a sometimes longer than usual nap. So yes, a little something going on, but nothing too dramatic.

It is important that you research and reach your own decision. I agree, the swine flu shot is loaded with too many additives or adjuncts which are harmful to us. Research it and you will find it. These adjuncts have been linked (not the cause but linked) to autism. Autism is stronger or worse in some kids than others. In any event, it is not fun for anyone, including the kid.

It is all very confusing! If you listen to the local news, it is killing kids off by the dozens. If you research it elsewhere, you will find that the strand is dying or weakening. Go on youtube.com and listen to some of the doctors who have opinions on this flu itself and the vaccination.

So my personal decision is that we are not getting the swine flu shot. My husband wanted my 4YO to have it, but was basing it on how many kids have been affected by swine flu. After allowing him to hear about it, he backed off. In my opinion, it is no different than the unfortunate personal decision you have to make after someone has been in a bad accident. Do you keep them alive by machine or pull the plug and let nature take it's course. You will always wonder if you have done the right thing and everyone will offer a different opinion.

Best of luck and good health to everyone!

Based on what you've said here regarding your son's reactions to prior vaccines, I would not get him the swine flu vaccine and I think it is irresponsible of your ped to recommend it! There are lots of differing opinions regarding vaccinations in general (If I were you, I'd look up more info. on nvic.org). There are many, many natural things you can do to boost immunity and help your son heal without using drugs. I wouldn't do the regular flu shot, either, as many of them contain mercury, which isn't good for your son. Most vaccines contain aluminum, formaldehyde (which is a carcinogen), and other nasty ingredients. God bless you and your son.

C.D.

answers from Los Angeles on

Aluminum, mercury, and formaldehyde are some of the irritating ingredients in shots... I know that some of the Mama's suggested egg allergy -- but there could be many things in the shots that your sons system can't handle. This is a good link about Thimerosal:

http://www.naturalnews.com/011764.html

I agree with some of the Mamas who suggested suspending shots until your baby is at least 2, and also those who suggested getting a different pediatrician.

Hey C.,
If your son is having adverse reactions like this, I would not do any more vaccinations. These reactions will only get worse with each vaccine you get, and could permanently damage your son. If your doctor is pressuring you to do this, and is not considering the serious side effects of it, it sounds as though it is time for a different doctor. There are many good doctors out there that will either support you if you choose not to vaccinate, or will even create an alternative schedule for when your son is older. The doctor Sears website has a list of doctors that follow an alternative vaccination schedule.
However, before you do anything more, may I suggest you get the book The Sanctity of Human Blood? This book gives the skinny on vaccines and all the reactions that could possibly happen. It will leave you better informed on why your child is reacting to the vaccine, and will empower you to make educated decisions regarding your son's health.

answers from Los Angeles on

I will answer your question by putting in a tiny bit of my two cents and by forwarding a long letter to you that EVERYONE should read that is from a friend/associate who is a holistic MD.

My two cents: Basically in a nutshell the vaccine patent was applied for A YEAR BEFORE the flu showed up - so think about that one for a bit - pretty scary and sad.

If you keep your kids and your family healthy, noone will get the swine flu and if they do, there are TONS of holistic/herbal/vitamin remedies that will wipe it out WITHOUT ANY SIDE EFFECTS - so ask yourself "why wouldn't I do this route since it's safe and can only enhance the health of my family?".

But in 2009 the average person is NOT HEALTHY, because there are so many electronics, cell phones, air pollution and stress around us. So we really do need to at minimum get our nutrients assessed at least bi-yearly (like a bi-annual dental checkup) and be sure we are sufficient. When we are sufficient, our bodies can fight anything. Its the fact that so many are so nutrient depleted (especially in 'minerals' - which help the immune system to operate ) that leave us 'open' to infection so easily.

If your family is one of those who - when one gets sick the rest get sick, AND this happens a couple to a few times each year - then you are nutrient deficient. None of our patients get sick like that and when one gets sick, they are better in a day and the rest of the family does not get sick too. This is truly due to being satiated in nutrients. I urge you as mom's to take charge of your family's health. The requirements to be healthy are very different than they were 20-40 years ago when you (we moms) were children.

FOr this and many similar reasons, we are offering a Family & Friends Get Healthy this Fall program - at Creative Nutrition & Wellness and 2 new people will each receive 25% off their assessment. Our programs are easy, practical, use natural nutrients and they work! and quickly too!

good luck with your journey towards helping your family. Know that there are many alternative type places to get answers other than feeding the pharmaceutical co's wallets. (NOTE they will earn $10 MILLION for the swine flu!)

The swine flu and its vaccine are not new. In 1976, an army recruit based in Fort Dix died following a mysterious illness. In addition, four of his fellow soldiers were hospitalized. Health officials disclosed to America that the illness was swine flu. Without knowing much about the details of their medical history and why they were susceptible to severe reactions to this illness, people became anxious that this could lead to a flu pandemic similar to 1918, and a vaccine was quickly prepared to be given to the masses. In the end, the illness never transpired. It came to be known as the swine flu fiasco of 1976 after twenty five people died and five hundred became paralyzed all from the vaccine. In other words, more people suffered from the effects of the vaccine than the illness itself.

One of the medical conditions that resulted from the 1976 swine flu was a condition called Guillain-Barre Syndrome (GBS) an autoimmune condition characterized by the rapid onset of paralysis. I became alarmed when I recently received a memo to physicians in which it was written, "In anticipation of widespread vaccination this fall, the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health is conducting enhanced surveillance for GBS." Does this mean that we will be seeing increased cases of GBS this fall following the H1N1 flu vaccine?

Another concerning aspect of this vaccine is the use of dangerous ingredients. In addition to mercury and aluminum contained in many routine vaccinations, a fast tracked vaccine such as the new H1N1 will most likely contain squalene an oil-in-water adjuvant used to stimulate the immune system. Squalene is not licensed to be used in the United States, unless it is approved by the FDA in cases of a "public health emergency."

During the Gulf War many people in the military received the anthrax vaccination due to the threat of bioterrorism. Currently numerous vets are suffering from an array of severe and debilitating autoimmune diseases collectively known as Gulf War Syndrome (GWS) which is linked to the anthrax vaccine also containing squalene. According to Meryl Nass, M.D., an authority on the anthrax vaccine, "A novel feature of the two H1N1 vaccines being developed is the addition of squalene-containing adjuvants to boost immunogenicity and dramatically reduce the amount of viral antigen needed. This translates to much faster production of desired vaccine quantities." Although Squalene may aid vaccine efficiency it can come at a cost.

On a positive note, the swine flu has been considered mild in places where winter has already occurred, Australian Federal Health Minister Nicola Roxon reassured parents in July 2009 the swine flu is no more dangerous than regular seasonal flu. "Most people, including children, will experience very mild symptoms and recover without any medical intervention," According to pediatrician Dr. Jay Gordon, "Swine flu does not pose a realistic risk to your family: There will be millions of cases reported and rare fatalities highly publicized." In addition, having the flu stimulates the body to develop protective antibodies. As human beings adapt to the new influenza virus, it will become less virulent (harmful) over time. "By the end of September, there had been about 600 deaths in America including about 50 deaths in young children. Complications from infectious diseases like influenza are more common in people with heart, respiratory and other health problems and that is true for swine flu. (NVIC)

In order to produce vast amounts of this vaccine in a short amount of time, clinical testing has been limited. Not only has it been tested for a few weeks on only a few thousand healthy Americans, there is no data out on the safety for pregnant women and people with health conditions.

Currently there are governmental agencies such as the Vaccine Injury Compensation Program available for people who have suffered from the effects of a vaccine. However, the swine flu vaccine is different because under federal legislation passed by Congress in 2001 any vaccine that is to be used under the Emergency Use Authorization allows companies to be protected from liability. According to Barbara Loe Fisher of the National Vaccine Information Center, "Federal health officials are already pre-emptively warning Americans that most of the deaths and cases of brain inflammation, seizures, paralysis, multiple sclerosis, rheumatoid arthritis, lupus, strokes, heart attacks, miscarriages and other serious health problems that develop after swine flu vaccination will be considered a "coincidence" and not related in any way to the flu shots just given." In other words, you are on your own if you suffer a complication following this swine flu vaccine.

We live in a time of vast technological advancements in medicine. We have witnessed the wonders that modern medicine has contributed to our level of health and treatment of disease. However, success can lead to excess. The overuse of antibiotics has led to antibiotic resistance and the advent of infections such as MRSA. By overusing the flu vaccines and anti-flu drugs such as Tamiflu, researchers are concerned that this may cause viruses to change into more dangerous strains.

I encourage you to make an informed decision in this matter for you and your family. Whatever your decision, it is always prudent to keep your immune system strong. Use common sense measures such as frequent hand washing, gargling with warm salt water, get ample rest and exercise, eat a healthy diet avoiding refined sugars, drink plenty of water and broths, and consider using homeopathic medicine, herbs, vitamins and supplements for boosting the immune system.

In good health,

Lauren Feder, MD

obviously your son has a difficult immune response to vaccines. Find another pediatrician! One that yes, will spread out shots if you want to continue, but also is responsive to your individual child's needs. Also, check out homeopathy. I don't know where you live but you could check her out: dr. lauren feder. She is a great homeopathic doctor for children and adults and on her website has a homeopathic winter tonic that is aimed for this winter's swine flu. When your son is this sick from the shots, give him a break and let his immune system recover - just keep him away from big events with lots of people, etc. for a while. Your son is telling you something with all of this. It was the same with my son in the beginning and now, at 3, he is very strong. Good luck!

Mamas please be informed. If you are concerned about the amount of Thimerosal, both the seasonal flu vaccine and the swine flu vaccine can be Thimerosal free in single dose syringes, you just have to request this from your doctor. The reason there is Thimerosal still in flu vaccines is because they are provided to the masses and there needs to be a preservative in the multi dose vials to keep bacteria out. All other pediatric vaccines are single dose vials so that is why there is no Thimerosal. I work with a group of Pediatric specialists and they say there is no difference in how the swine flu vaccine is made from the seasonal flu vaccine and in fact if the outbreak would have occurred sooner it would have been included in the seasonal vaccine as well. In your case, I agree with one of the other mamas that your child may have an egg allergy or an allergy to something else in the vaccine so I would be hesitant until your child has a work up for this. Swine flu is extremely dangerous to the young and we have had several cases of death at our hospital alone, and some of these were of perfectly healthy children. Why? Swine flu doesn't have to have a very high fever (101-102), so parents try to treat too long at home. By the time they take the child to the hospital, it may be too late. So, if you choose not to vaccinate, be vigilant about hand washing. Don't let people touch your baby without washing their hands first, and don't let people near the baby that are sick. My thought is I would feel terrible if my 10 month old baby girl got the swine flu and was hospitalized for it and or died when I could have easily prevented it. Good luck.

i think you're already answering your questions. Based on your child's history, i wouldn't get the shot and just take precautions by washing his hands regularly, bath every night, extra vitamin C etc. I'm not against vaccination, both my kids get theirs. But I do believe in spreading it out.

However, specifically in regards to this flu shot, I say NO. Because it has been shown to you that your child's immune system can't handle it as well as another child. Which I would ALSO highly caution you to be very careful when it comes to other/future immunization shots...and to spread it out as much as possible.

take care.

Most people do not get the flu from a flu shot. Your baby seems abnormally sickly and I think the real flu or swine flu would be detrimental and could be really bad. Neither of my 3 children ever had those reactions to vaccinations. The most they ever got was a fever and crankiness ONCE. They have had the flue shot twice and did not have a rection to it other than the injection spot was sore. They just got the intranasal spray for Swine flu and were totally fine and it has been 3 weeks. I don't think it's so much the shots themselves, but it sounds like you just have a sickly kids that will react to anything. Have you considered that the shots may not be causing this at all and he was already sick? I would have him checked out for other problems because he does not sound like he has a healthy immune system. Have your dr. do blood tests.

C.,

I felt sick just reading what you and your precious little guy have gone through with the vaccines. What a sad time!

The first thing I would do, if possible, is switch pediatricians. It is never normal for a little one to go through all that without help.

And as for the swine flu/flu shots? Well, I would speak with your new pediatrician and Children's Hospital before moving forward on that one.

With a little one who responds that severely...you have to fight to get the answers, kay?

Prayers and hope from another mama with sweet children who have been incredibly affected by life as well.

C., I'd say to not give it to your baby. Listen real carefully to his body and it's reactions to the past vaccinations. I wish I had to my daughter's. She would react to her vaccinations and instead of honoring what her body was saying, I let the doctor give her antihistamines to quiet the reaction. She grew up to develop an incurable autoimmune condition. I will always believe that had I not continued to let her receive the vaccines, her immune system would be intact.

I think you have very strong reasons not to give them to your baby. I think you and your husband (or anyone near the baby in regular basis) should definitely get them. Maybe being extremely careful during the season, never let anyone touch him (unless you know for sure they had being vaccinated, or at least washed hands properly). Try to keep him away from public places, order food on line, you can do a lot from home this days (unless he's going to day care), if he's going to a babysitter, make sure she's vaccinated also. And if he happens to get a fever, get medical care without delay. I know if my daughter was a baby, I would not think twice about the vaccines (though I am thinking it twice now that she's 4), but you really have to consider all the options. I would consult another pediatric doctor (read the opinions from Margaret S and Cindy R). It's also true the treats from the Swine flu are of consideration. Good luck.

First of all, you NEED to get a new Pediatrician like Lisa said, and one that does not treat patients by blowing them off.
And I would think, that since your son gets extremely sick a lot, in tandem with his shots... that THAT would be a bell going off for your Pediatrician and thus make him recommend SMARTER decision making and solutions. And figure out why your son does get sick so much and "for weeks" as you said. This is NOT normal... vomiting for 2 months, the extreme ear infections, etc. MAYBE something else is wrong with him as well, or allergies etc. I CANNOT believe, the Pediatrician has not come up with any answers for you, nor provided you with additional tests/treatment/causes.

All the best,
Susan

Please don't get your son the MMR shot until he is at least 4 years old. If he is reacting to other vaccinations, then I strongly suggest waiting on that one. I did with my kids and do not regret it. Autism is growing rapidly and it is just something you can try and prevent by waiting on his shots. Also, from the info you told us, I would not get the H1N1 vaccination. I am not some advocate against vaccinations, I just think some bodies react differently and hold onto the toxins from the vaccinations longer...creating health issues. You are a good mom. Follow your gut. Good luck.

Hi C.- I am so sorry to hear about all that you have to go thru with your baby's sicknesses. Well, seems like your instinct is telling you not to get him the shot.. I don't want to get into the debate of whether to get the flu shots. I think that if all that you described was indeed reactions to the various shots, you probably should find out more about it, instead of debating about the flu shots. Your baby is only 6 months old, so there are still many recommended shots to come in his life. And some of them are really essential. So talk to your doctor about the reactions. If he or she isn't listening, find another doctor. Now there is also a chance that your baby caught something when he got the shots at the doctor's office. There are a lot of sick kids there, and if the office's cleaning policy is lax, it's a hotbed for germs! It's not uncommon for sick kids to get sicker right after the doctor's visit. Also, you should never let your kid get ANY shot if he has any symptoms of a cold. And you were right, spread out the shots is also a good idea.

As for the swine flu shot, I am considering letting me kids get it when it's available. They are older, however, and one just started kindergarten. Shots are better than the nasal mist, because they contain dead virus (you can't catch the flu from dead virus). But personally, if my child were only 6 months old and have had strong reactions to shots in the past, I would NOT give him the swine flu shot -- too risky, and too new with no history. Good luck!!
