Swimming with Jellyfish - Would You Do It?

I was browsing through the yahoo news this morning and something captured my eye. People are swimming with Jellyfish.

Now I was stung by a jelly fish when I was 12 years old. It was a very painful experience. One that I would not want to repeat.

According to the article, the lake, is on the island of Palau. They said that the lake once had access to the ocean water and is now contains over 8 MILLION jellyfish that have supposedly lost their sting. Quoting the photographer and article: "Said photographer Kevin Davidson, "The jellyfish have evolved into their own subspecies and have slowly lost their stinging cells, some snorkelers may feel a slight sting on more tender parts of the skin, but they're harmless." (Caters News Agency)"

So would you swim with the jellyfish?

What can I do next?

I'm not sure I would do it. I, like some of you, would have to see other people's reactions FIRST!

The idea of swimming with whales or dolphins sounds like a blast! I personally would like to swim with some sharks too. My wife thinks I'm crazy.

No. Sting or no sting... no.
Why? I've been diving. From the photos in the article, it looks like there are so many that it would be rather disorienting... THAT makes me uncomfortable. Not knowing which is up or down or left or right... not being able to see beyond the floating gelatinous masses everywhere.... THAT would creep me out. So no.

no thank you.

Just because they can't really sting, doesn't mean they aren't trying to attack! I don't want to piss off a bunch of jellyfish. And they are pretty delicate, fragile things. I wouldn't want to hurt one.

Based upon the new details of there being jellyfish without a sting, YES, I'd think that would be a very cool experience to swim around jellyfish. Probably therapeutic too.

But I hear you Mr. Mom. I grew up in SoCalif and everyone either gets stung by a jellyfish or turned topsy-turvy in the waves and nearly drowns or both on the same day frequently.

Did you know the quickest cure for the jellyfish sting is to urinate on the stinged area? Yup, works like a charm.

I'd have to watch others do it first. And gauge their reactions.

Then...maybe.

No.
Sting or no sting, I don't like swimming in water with a lot of anything floating in it.

Non stinging...yes. But I'd watch by the sidelines first. Make sure they really aren't stinging people. I have been stung more than once. The last time hubby kept offering to pee on me. I settled for the ammonia in windex and that worked too, without the ick factor.

I HAVE swum with stingless jellyfish. Somewhere in Asia. Forget where (15 years ago). It's really really really weird feeling.

LOL... I wouldn't go in until a few others had and didn't come yelping back out.

You get the occasional zap, sort of feels like static. No chemical burns.

Nope. Fish and things that are in the water CREEP ME OUT! I don't care if they sting or not.
I like to look at them OUTSIDE of the water. Like whale watching. :)

No. I've been stung before, and my oldest son has been stung twice, the second time he had a horrible allergic reaction.

I was snorkeling with sharks once, and that was creepy, but I was OK with it until a jellyfish showed up. I got out of the water immediately when I saw the jellyfish! :)

Yes, I'd do it! Jellyfish are so beautiful...it would be so cool to dive among tons of them. I'd wear a wetsuit and take along a good underwater camera!

I've been stung in Mexico and Costa Rica (pretty bad each time), so no, I would not be interested in that type of repeat adventure.

Eww, no thanks. Even if they don't sting, it would seriously skeeve me out. I would prefer to swim with cuter aquatic creatures - like dolphins.
