Anyone have recommendations for swimming pools/clubs with pools -- outdoor for the summer and indoor pools for the winter?
Thanks!

Hi N.,

I take my 2 1/2 years old daughter to the YMCA in Green for swimming lessons. It is on Massillion road. It is a fairly new facility, very clean and nice inside. You can contact me diretly by e-mail if you like.

Branhaven Pool on Portage St and Dogwood Pool in North Canton is nice. Our students go to Dogwood on field trips in the summer. Also, the new YMCA in Jackson will have an indoor one that will be nice.

N.,
Have you looked into the JCC? You mentioned your kids were going there for preschool. They should have a great pool/swimming program. The one in Akron does if yours does not.

I take my girls swimming ALL THE TIME, so I'm fairly familiar with the pools in the area.

Dogwood pool (on 7th Street in North Canton) is very nice. There is a huge main pool, and a "splash pool" for little ones. The shallow area in the main pool is not very big, though.

Clearwater (on Rt 619 in Uniontown) is also fun. The shallow area is really large, so it's good for little ones like yours (and mine).

Branhaven swim club (off Portage Rd in North Canton)is member-only. I haven't been there since high school, but I'm guessing it's still nice since it's in Jackson Twp.

I was a member at Shady Hollow Country Club for a number of years. It's a great family-oriented club, and the pool is nice. The shallow end isn't very big, though. There is also a baby pool, but my girls always wanted to be in the "big pool".

Our FAVORITE pool is Water Works (on Monroe Falls Ave in Cuyahoga Falls). http://cfo.cityofcf.com/web2/view.do?dir=parksandrec/wwfac. It's worth the drive. The shallow area is enormous, and there are a lot of fun splash things for the little ones. There are also water slides for the bigger kids, an enormous sand playground, and a lazy river.

Indoor pools: I haven't been to the Canton Natatorium since I was a kid, but I think it's still nice. The YMCA in North Canton is renovating their indoor pool this summer, so it should be nice when they're done. The YMCA in Green is brand new, and their indoor pool is wonderful. I take my girls there for swimming lessons.

I hope this is helpful. Feel free to contact me via email at ____@____.com

Happy swimming!
