From the Coconut Creek area I'd recommend the Boca YMCA (off Palmetto Park just east of Powerline), esp. for a 5-year old (for 3 and under, I like the way LifeStyle teaches and they're definitely worth the drive to FAU).
The Y has classes from 'not-quite-able-to-swim-on-their-own' to competitive AAU swim team, and you can take the classes during the week or on the weekend. They also have a pretty cool waterslide that they won't let the kids use until they can swim an olympic lap, which is a nice carrot for a boy that age.

Quality Swimming out of Boca conducts swimming classes at the Discovery Pre-School in Coconut Creek (just south of Holmberg/Johnson on the east side of 441). There is also a Swim Academy in a shooping plaza just east of the Coral Square mall (behind Outback). Good luck!

Hi T.,
I would highly recommend Boca Swim Academy. They're on the campus of Broward Prep School - prices are very reasonable and Molly is an AWESOME Instructor!
My son had developed a fear of the water after several lessons and she worked with him with care and patience!

My boys go to summer camp at Kids In Motion. They offer swimming lessons for people of all ages & have certified teachers. My 4 y/o just completed & passed his course. They are located in Coral Springs. They have an ad in the Sharp Saver magazine that goes out to households all over Broward & Palm Beach counties. Or you can find them in the phone book. Good luck!
