Sweet Potato Pie for Thanksgiving!
Hello moms, Im writing everyone to ask a question on a sweet potato pie. One of the desserts I am making for Thanksgiving is sweet potato pie. Well as I've never made this one before, I have a question. The pie will be done baking about an hour, hour and a half before actually eaten. My question is what should I do with it while waiting on the other food to be done...Can it sit in the microwave and just be taken out and eaten when everything else is done? Should it be heated back up? If it should be heated back up should it be put in the refrigerator until ready to be heated, or at room temperature? If anyone has any advice on what to do with it while the other food is finishing up, that would be greatly appreciated!

Let it sit out a room temp until ready to eat. You may want to put it in the fridge after everyone is finished eating it.

I may get a backlash of comments, but I guess I'm 'old school' (my parents grew up with NO refrigeration except the water spring (or well) or the cellar (I'm 51, and they're in heaven). Anyway, my rule-of-thumb is that almost anything is OK to eat after 24 hrs at room temperature. Probably this mindset has helped keep our family's digestive system strong (overcoming bacteria) and we are rarely sick (thank God). I think if we try to keep everything TOO sterile and bacteria-free it does more harm than good.

The way I do mine is after baking, put it on a cooling rack in the tin. After around 2 hours, it should be at roopm temp and perfect to serve. You don't want your sweet potato pie too hot or too cold when you serve it. It is really best served at room temperature with a dallop of cool whip on top. Any questions, please do not hesitate to e-mail me. ____@____.com

I sorry that I answered this so late, but I had a very long bout with a Miagraine. But if you have any of these three pies pumpkin, sweet potato, or winter squash pie; I try to keep them warm on first serve and I had vanilla ice cream, hot caramel sauce and a sprinlke of toasted pecans. To keep the pie warm wrap it in aluminum foil and put it into your oven after everything is out on either the lowest temperature or if yours had a warming setting use it. I'm sorry that this is too late, but maybe you can use it for Christmas. And remember those three pies have a nutrient in them that most foods except bananas do not have a lot in them and that is potasium S.

You can put it in the refrigerator and reheat it, it should be fine. I would say it might be okay to leave out, but if it has eggs in it, might be on the safe side to refrigerate until after the meal.
Some folks even like it cold!! Be sure to cover it in the fridge.

If it were me, I would make it early in the day or even the day before and serve closer to room temperature.

I would put it in the refrigerator. I actually like my sweet potato pie served cold. Or leave it at room temp and let it cool completely then serve. Putting it back in the oven or microwave to warm after cooling will dry it out.

Since sweet potato pie is a custard (i.e. has eggs in it), it does need to be refrigerated. HOWEVER, make sure that it is cooled to room temperature before you put it in the fridge (covered) so that it doesn't "sweat." If you stick it in there too quickly, as the moisture rises out of the pie it will form a liquid on top of your pie (condensate) rather than just evaporating into the air.
I'm sure it will be fine, though. Sweet potato pie is good both heated and cold. Personally, for less than 2 hours after coming out of the oven, I would just leave it out and put it away after we were done, assuming there are any leftovers.
