Sweet 16 Ideas
Hi
my daughter will be 16 in April and she really is excited about it. I would like to do something really special for her and I was wondering if anybody had any ideas. She does have asperger syndrome so she does not really have any friends to invite to a big party. I am not looking for anything we could do anytime but something that might make her feel like a princess for the day. Thanks in advance for any suggestions you have. offer.

I love the tea room idea, I think that there is one in Hartland also. You could also get her a tiara (Michaels in the wedding dept, or walmart). It would be inexpensive and definitely let her stand out.

When I think of Princess I think of feeling preety. SO with that said. I say if your budget allows. Treat her to a spa package. She could get a manicure and pedicure and maybe if she likes. Then maybe you could take her out with family to a restaraunt and movie of her choice.
SPAS to consider-

For my 16th birthday, my mom & I had a "girl's day". We went and got our hair done, went shopping, had lunch and stopped at the DMV to get my license! Also, when we got home she gave me a ring that was my grandmothers because I was now "old enough" to have an heirloom. Just some ideas!

Hi D.,
This first thing that came to my mind when you mentioned "princess for a day" was Club Libby Lu @ Parisian. There may be stand-alone stores as well, but maybe 3-4 around the Rochester/Utica area. She may be on the older end of their clientele, but they certainly do some great things to make her feel special and pretty. She can go alone, or with a friend or two, and they get the same treatment. Check it out at clublibbylu.com. Hope she has a wonderful birthday!

Keeping in mind that you said she doesn't have a big group of friends, here's a suggestion.
Start her day with a balloon delivery to start off her morning. If cost is an issue for delivery by a florist, go get them yourself and have them outside her bedroom door when she gets up in the morning. They have cute Sweet 16 balloons avail. You can even have Meijers do this for you.
Even one friend and her could have a special day with you. A ladies day. If you have the whole day, start with a brunch.
Proceed from there to go have finger nails done at a salon. If this will be in the spring maybe add a pedicure to the package. You could even go to the store to buy their own nail polish, files etc. first, so that they may maintain them after. This could be followed up with a special lunch (of her choice location, but have some suggestions ready.
If you are all into something probably very different than your usual...check into a tea room for the brunch part of it. If you are in the Detroit area, I know there is one (I think in one of the "Points", I think, or St. Clair Shores area. You may have to go to google or yellow pages to find it. It is Victorian I understand and very lady like. It could be fun just because it is different.
I just heard that there is a new movie out, P.S. I Love You. My daughter said it is very good. So there's some ideas for you. I hope something in here helps you. I am familiar with your daughter's issues. Have fun.

Manicure...pedicure...and dinner at a nice restaraunt...somewhere you wouldn't usually take her. Maybe it could be the 2 of you, or she could invite a friend. Another special treat I've heard of for big birthdays are going to a play or on an out of town excursion. Chicago isn't too expensive if you plan ahead. The train is cheap, and southwest you can usually fly for $50 1 way. It is a little expensive for a birthday, but it would be something really special and would be fun for mom and daughter to get some quality time in together.
Just a few ideas. Anything to make you feel glamorous and special is great on your birthday!

You could take the family to Disney World. That makes girls feel like princesses.
If you join the $9.00 fare club at Spirit (it costs $9.00) the flight both ways for 5 people can cost as low as $945.00 PLUS THE $9 for joining the $9 Fare Club+++:
04/08/2008 NK801 Detroit (DTW) to Orlando (MCO) 8:50 AM-11:27 AM Deluxe Leather 951
04/16/2008 NK804 Orlando (MCO) to Detroit (DTW)
It's a thought. I don't think people know how inexpensive flying to Orlando can be with Spirit. The cost may even go down if you are willing to take the family on a Monday and return on Friday. As the date gets closer, we get flight costs that sometime are so low that they pay us to fly. Crazy!
