My family wants to get away to Michigan this summer. We are thinking of the beaches of SW Michigan. Can you please give me some suggestions on where to go, where to stay (preferably with a pool), what to do etc. Thanks for your help!

K. - I've had really good luck doing family trips by using a website called Homeaway.com. Its a national website that lists houses/condos that you can rent for vacations. Its way cheaper than getting hotel rooms and you will have a kitchen, family space etc. For our spring break we took my parents, my sister and us (family of 5), to Tucson where we stayed in a beautiful home, surrounded by gorgeous desert in bloom, with our own swimming pool/spa. It was great!
As for SW Michigan, I just spent a long weekend in Coloma Mi right on the lake. I don't think you can go wrong with any of the obvious choices: Union Pier, South Haven, St. Joseph's. I would really try to find a house that you can enjoy (pool???). Good Luck and have fun!

K.,

I've enjoyed trips to Lakeside/Union Pier, Saugatuck, South Haven, and Holland. My family used to go to Sleepy Hollow (they have a regular pool and a kids pool) outside South Haven when I was a kid. You can rent cottages, and they had arts & crafts and other activities for the kids. I'm not sure how it is pricewise these days. Holland has a lot of fun sights to see (in addition to beautiful beaches). Saugatuck is a small town with lovely beaches. We rented a cottage in Lakeside/Union Pier a couple of times. There's not too much going on there besides the beach, but it's lovely and quiet.

Have a lovely vacation!

We really like St.Joe, it's close and the beaches are beautiful with a great playground. Tons of kids....It's very clean and there's always stuff to do. Just book early!

hi K.,

we're going to south haven, mi. we've been there once before and really liked it. the beaches are great. it has a cute little town. you can check out the visitor's center page. we rented a condo with a pool near the park and beach through shores rentals. they were easy to work with and had a wide price range.

we've stayed in new buffalo before and the beach was nice, but the town had less to do than south haven.

let me know if you need more specific help.

Depending on where in SW Michigan, Grand Haven is a pretty nice place. We have family out there so we have been there lots of times there's shopping and you can't miss the

Also the Days Inn has an indoor pool but its only accessible from the main hotel they have 2 buildings on the lot. Its an additional charge to have a room in the main hotel.
