Supposed to Go to Cancun

Hello Moms,
I need some of your opinions. My daughter which is 15 months and myself are supposed to go to Cancun May 21st and now I do not know what to do because of the swine flu going on in Mexico. I am 6 month pregnant so I am worried about my daughter and unborn baby. What would you guys do if you were in my place? I rather be safe then sorry. thank you

What can I do next?

I heard a physician speaking this morning saying that it is going to get worse before it gets better, otherwise I'd say "Wait and see how this shakes out". But, I am going to go with the majority of mamas here and say, "stay home", especially with your being pregnant, and take the usual precautions when exposed to anyone who is under the weather.

We had to re-book a Mexico trip last year when my husband was injured and required surgery the day prior to the flight. We were given 100% of the ticket price, minus a $25 rebook fee, in return. I think, in this case, your situation would qualify as a medical exemption.

I am going to have to disagree with the poster who suggested this flu is a hoax.

I would not take the risk. IF you are considering going talk to all of your doctors first.

First, I will say that I would hold off if only because you have a little one and you are pregnant. There is an influenza going around and it is like the swine flu. My husband is from Mexico. His mom still lives there but in a small town about 4 hours from Mexico City, mainly because you have to go over the mountains. They are not sick there yet but his aunt in Morelos visited the city and she has been sick the past 2 days. Not horribly sick but she has the flu. She was supposed to go visit someone else and has instead returned to her home to recover. My husband is supposed to go to Mexico to visit his mom next month and I am nervous about it but he will be taking many precautions if he does go.

I would not risk it!

If you'd rather be safe than sorry, don't go. Why take the chance?

Swine flu or hoax, there is some sort of health outbreak going on there that, well quite honestly, shouldn't be ignored.

I just heard on the news that the State Department is recommending at least temporarily that people delay their travel to Mexico. The report also stated that the airlines are being flexible with rescheduling as well as some are not charging fees for the change. Dr. Oz (of Oprah fame) was on Good Morning America yesterday and he said that he wouldn't let his family travel at this time until there is a better grasp on the situation. So with all that said and with being pregnant you probably want to check with both your pediatricina and OB/GYN.

Honestly I'd postpone my trip if I were you. I have read that many airlines and hotels are waving their rescheduling fees right now so it shouldn't cost you much. I'd be less worried about being in Mexico and more worried about being in a plane to and from Mexico.
