Sunblock Advice for Sensitive Eyes

My question is... What kind of sunblock should I use for my son? He is 17 months old and it seems that sometimes when I put sunblock on him it seems to be getting in his eyes and irritating them. It has happened 3 or 4 times now and its only the beginning of the summer. I've had to put him over the sink and pour water over his eye to get it out. He must have really sensitive eyes because even the "Tear free" kind irritates it. I make sure that everytime I put it on him when I do his face to be gentle not to get it in his eyes. I've used Kids Banana Boat Tear free and Water babies. Both seem to be iritating his eyes! If anyone can recommend any to me I would greatly appreciate it. My son shouldn't have to suffer all summer with irritated eyes because of sunblock. I think I'm going to start using a stick sunblock for his face. I dont know what else to do!

What can I do next?

I use Arbonne's Baby line sunscreen on both my girls and it does not bother their eyes at all. It is botanically based and pediatrician tested. Love it:)

We've had good luck with Aveeno Baby sunblock, which was recommended by our pediatric dermatologist. It's a new product and the baby version is a bit harder to find. It dries so fast that you have to be quick rubbing it in before it leaves a white residue - but that's better than red, irritated eyes!

I would suggest blue lizard for sensitive skin or for babies both should be easy on the skin and eyes

My son had the same problem last year. We went through just about every baby brand until I accidentally bought Avon sun kids sunscreen (we were at a flea market and horrible mother that I am, I forgot sunscreen). It's not the bug one, but is blue and the color disappears. I had a bunch of teen babysitters covering him in that stuff all last summer and we didn't have any problems with it. His face didn't turn red and blotchy like the other stuff, he didn't have irritated eyes, and we didn't have a single burn. I think this is the only stuff I'm buying this summer for all of us, it worked so well. Good luck!

I use stick sunblock on my sons nose, then I cover his eyes with hand and use the spray on sunblock. Its great cause gives you even coverage on the whole body.

How close to his eyes are you putting it? I would make sure whatever block I'm using doesn't come below his eyebrows, that way the eyebrows can perform their evolved purpose of keeping stuff from running into the eyes. Definitely don't use less--that just means you're not getting good SPF protection. The amount you have to use to get the labeled SPF is way more than most people think anyway. And the advice about what you put on his hands is great--I do that to myself all the time and it hurts, especially when you wear contact lenses like I do...

J.-
My vote is for Arbonne's sun care products...pure, safe, and beneficial!
They are amazing. My daughter has always had very sensitive skin, and we LOVE all the baby care products and still use them! (she's six and a half years old!)
Let me know if you want more info...
Good luck!

I bought my baby care line from Arbonne.com and I liked there product so much that I am now selling it!!! Check them out at www.arbonne.com and look for the baby products. They may seem a little more exspensive but it lasts a long time and they are all natural products!! I love it, I have used it on my son so much and he does not even get a little red!!

The sticks are good as they tend to be thicker and don't run with sweat as much. You can also use as little as possible on his face to minimize running. Put some screen on his cheeks, forehead and nose. Then put a protective hat and sunglasses on him to fill in the gaps.

The other thing you should watch is putting it on his hands. Little ones touch and rub their eyes so often - don't put it on the fronts or backs of his hands.

Greetings J.. One of my children had the same issue. I have used different sticks on his face. What I have found works best is Oil of Olay Complete. It is safe for children over the age of 6 months. It's light weight and non-greasy. My children love it. It doesn't feel like sunscreen.
