Sun Protecton
I was wondering if any of you moms had some advice on how to protect a 4 month old from the sun.
We like going for walks and being outside, however I'm afraid of her getting burned. Hats and long sleeves won't protect her hands and face. We will be going to Hawaii in 2 weeks and I want her to be able to play in the water.
Thanks for any advice you may have!
S.

It's so great that you are protecting her!!
You might try fabric with UV protection to avoid the sunblock issue- there is something called "solarveil" - it's very lightweight, sheer, breathable) or perhaps buy the fabric and make your own sheet of sorts to cover your stroller. I also just bought a hat with a a really wide brim and UV protection for my baby. They have some hats that have extra fabric in the back to protect their necks, too.
I think your doctor may be okay with the sunblock on her face and hands, but I would recommend being careful with the hands since she may be putting them in her mouth. Perhaps you could also shade her with an umbrella while in the water. Of course this won't stop the reflection off the water, but it's better than nothing.

I took my son to Jamaica when he was 3 months old and against the Dr's advice I used sun block, there was no other option. I used the banana boat for babies, and he never had a problem.

We took my daughter to Hawaii when she was 5 months old. My pediatrician advised me to liberally apply sunscreen. I used Coppertone waterbabies. I got both spray and stick(which I applied on her ears and face. Just apply before going out and everytime she gets out of the water. Also for just walking around in her stroller I bought this extra sunshader thing that attaches to the umbrella part of the stroller. It will give a little extra shade for her delicate body. Have fun!!

Here's the link to the American Academy of Pediatrics stance on sun protection. They advocate keeping babies under 6 months out of direct sunlight, but do advise sunblock if you need it. I would recommend bringing a stroller and/or backpack with a sunshade on it, and put sunblock on whatever you can't guarantee will be out of the sun all of the time.

Hi S.,
Keep her out of the sun as much as possible and try the Arbonne Baby Care sunscreen - it's PURE, SAFE and Beneficial - even for new babies' precious skin!
Have fun in Hawaii!
