Sun Protection for a Baby
Hi Moms,
I know I can't put regular sunscreen on my 4 month old, but what about the herbal kind? If not, any suggestions for sun protection besides a sun hat and long sleeves?
Thanks!

My son has very sensitive skin and I put Aveno sunscreen on him. It's kind of pricey but worth it. A little goes a long ways and you do not have to re-apply it every time you turn around.

I am a certified herbal consultant and I would recommend the samambaia fern from the Amazon rainforest. I know of two topical products that are all natural (truly) that contain this amazing herb. Feel free to check out my website at: www.shootingstarherbs.amazonherb.net for Recovazon Gel or Lluvia Replenishing Moisturizer or to contact me for more detailed information.

Coconut oil has natural spf properties. I took my fair redhead to Hawaii and only used a hat and coconut oil. She went out in a swim diaper only. We did just fine. Of course, I was reasonable with her sun exposure otherwise, but we certainly didn't stay inside and wear long sleeves while out!

I didn't put sunscreen on either of mine until they were 6 months. Before that I used hats, longs sleeves, or just tried to keep them in the shade. if I knew that I wasn't going to be in the sun longer than 15 or 20 minutes, thenI wouldn't bother. Kids absorb lots of Vitamin D from the sun and sunscreen can block that absorbtion.
As for the herbal sunscreen...I would ask your pediatrician to be on the safe side.

Try to keep him/her in the shade as much as possible. If you're going to be somewhere like a beach or water, get a rash guard with a SPF. That way they don't get too hot either.
