I love to read but since my job keeps me so busy, I really don't get a chance to until the summer. I scored a Kindle last week and I'm excited to build my collection of e-books (even though I swore I would never get into this!). I'm probably getting myself in trouble here as it is WAY too easy to buy books w/it, but I'd love to know: what book (s) have you read recently that you loved and would recommend?
I typically love historical fiction, but I enjoy non-fiction (depending on the subject), health/fitness, parenting and politics.

I may be the minority, but I hated Water for Elephants, just so dark and ugly, you don't feel any kind of hope or positivity at the end.

I don't know what you've read so far so here are a few of my faves. I only like "modern" historical fiction so I'll give you some that I liked...
Memoirs of a Geisha
The Thirteenth Tale
Loving Frank
Cutting For Stone (this is a bit more modern than historical, but really good)
The Help
Water for Elephants (more history of the circus than "history", but really good)
The Paris Wife (just started reading it, it's pretty good so far, but has gotten great reviews)
Middlesex (a little weird for some people but super good)
The Lotus Eaters
Other than that, I really love John Irving as an author but you have to be able to deal with his rather prolific writing style. I love it but it can be hard to get through the beginning parts. I also like Amy Tan a lot too. One of my other favorites that doesn't fit into any of these categories is Midwives by Chris Bojalian (not sure on the spelling of that).
I love my Kindle too! I just got it recently and I've been addicted!
I don't read much for pleasure, but two books I have read recently that stuck in my mind are:
Lisa See: Snow Flower and the Secret Fan
Kazuo Ishiguru: Never let me go
I really enjoyed both of those.
See if you library has e-book capability. I have a Nook and I check out books online from my local library. I LOVE it!

"These Is My Words" by Nancy Turner is my all-time favorite book. It's a fictional diary of a young woman in the late 1800's. LOVE IT!!!
Anything by Sophie Kinsella and Emily Giffin is great. I like Gemma Townley too and I'm trying to read Eat, Pray, Love right now if my kids will ever let me get through it!! So far, it is really good.
since you're a busy person, be very careful not to overdo your reading list. Keep it short & simple.....that way you will feel a sense of accomplishment as you finish each book! Always set the stage to succeed!
