Summer Camps! - Hurst,TX

Hey Moms,

No clue what to do for my 6 year-old daughter this summer. Last summer, I put her back at her daycare, but she got really bored. I was planning on putting her in the Adventure Camps held on her school campus, but they're not offering them due to maintenance needed on the buildings this summer. I've looked at Leapin' Lizards and they seem to have a very reasonable and FUN camp planned for the summer - has anyone had their kids there for summer camp? Do you have any other suggestions in the Hurst/NRH/Haltom City area? I'd also love to hear of any academic camps to help her through the summer. Thanks!

**guess I should mention, we're on a budget! Thanks for the suggestions on the zoo and museum, but those camps are expensive and not necessarily all day. There's not really a YMCA close to us either. Therein, lies the dilemma!

Putt Putt has a program that is all day, all summer. They do lots of different activities (not just golf) and each day has a theme. We went to the one in Fort Worth last year, but NRH has one, too. I bought a groupon for my kids to go and they had a great time. I got the understanding they may have a groupon each year. Good luck!

You might check out the Ft. Worth Museum of Science & History. They have classes there during the summer she might be interested in. Not sure what ages they are for though.

North Texas Kids Magazine will soon be releasing their summer camp issue. It is a virtual magazine, go to http://northtexaskids.com/ntkblog/. What about the school system? I live in McKinney and MISD offers summer camp programs, different themes each week. Allen ISD also does (I actually sent my 4 year old daughter to the AISD school summer camps last year because MISD didn't offer camps for preschoolers). She absolutely loved them! The cost is fairly reasonable, too.

If you are willing to drive to Fort Worth for Zoo or Museum school, check out Camptivity Day Camp at LMRA. It is all day (6:30 a -6 p). My older son has gone every summer and loves it. My 5 yo (going into K) wants to go so bad and is finally old enough, so he gets to go this year, too.
they play games, do archery, swim, putt-putt, weekly field trips, counselors for age groups.
It is like a traditional camp, but a day camp.
Check it out for a week and if you like it and don't mind the drive, it is completely worth it. BUT sign up for at least one week soon so you can waive the registration fee.
So much fun!!

Like the other poster mentioned, the Ft. Worth Museum has good camps, and the Ft. Worth Zoo does, too.

My girls loved going to Girl Scout camp (she does not need to currently be in GS). I found them to be a combination of fun and learning activities. Here's a link http://www.gs-top.org/camp
