Summer Camps - Haltom City, TX
I am looking for summer camps (preferrably day camps instead of overnight) for 9 yo grandson in the Fort Worth/Mid Cities area. Do you have any suggestions or recommendations? Thanks!

Arlington Parks and Recreation have some really cool programs for kids. Some last a day and some last a week or two. None of them are overnight. Good luck!

Hello P.,
The city of euless offers summer camps all summer long with different themes for different ages. You can choose to participate for a week or the entire summer. I believe they are pretty much 7:30-6pm for older kids. My daughter is in pre-k and hers will be 9-2pm.
Here is a link to the website, just cut and paste:
http://www.euless.org/pacs/midway_rec.htm
Once you are there, just click on the link marked class schedule and the whole book of activities pops up. Camps and clinics is on page 6 of the pdf file.

In the mid-cities area, there is the Airport YMCA and they have a day camp. It is off of Cummings and Central. Also, off of Forest Ridge and Harwood in Bedford is the Bedford Boys Ranch and they have a day camp as well.

Call your local elementary school and ask they if you can pick up or they can mail you the fliers they are sending home right now for the students. My kids have come home with 10 different camps - hopefully you will be able to find something that interests him.

Camp Thurman, in Arlington, is VERY fun! I went when I was little... and now my daughter goes every summer. She absolutely LOVES it! Go to www.campthurman.org and sign up...even if it is a waitlist. I've never NOT been moved in off the waitlist when I have done it. :)

Hi, P.! As was already mentioned, the Bedford Boys Ranch has a day camp. They may have already started taking reservations for it and, if so, you may not be able to do all the weeks because they fill up quickly. However, definitely give them a call. If you're just looking for a week here and there, that may work out well. You can just pick and choose your weeks and you only pay for the times you're there. (That's helpful because many camps won't let you do that. It's all or nothing.) The only drawback is that you have to pay for the whole summer up front. It's only $92 a week, though, which is less than others. There's also a day camp for $100 a week + a $125 registration fee @ three elementary schools in the area - Midway Park, Shady Brook and one in Hurst that I can't recall right now. The drawback to this program is that you only get one week for which you don't have to pay if your child is out. But, you can pay per week, which is helpful to us. If you're interested in more information, go to the heb website: www.hebisd.edu and select one of the schools I mentioned and choose the after school care program link and you should find information on the summer camp. I hope this is helpful!
