Summer Camp Referral for 12 Year Old Daughter

Has anyone ever heard of Camp Shaw-waw-nas-see? It's located in Manteno, Illinois. I'm trying to find activities for my 12 year old daughter and would very much like for her to spend at least a week away at camp. I found a add for this camp in the Family Times magazine. It seems to very reasonably priced compared to some of the other camps I have seen and it's very close to my home in Matteson. So, having said that has anyone heard of this camp? Please also, if anyone has any other camp reasonably priced camp suggestions day or overnight, if you could share those as well, that would be great.

Thanks.

What can I do next?

Hi. I have also heard of that camp but don't know a whole lot about it. There is a camp in Frankfort called Camp Manitoqua. It's on Sauk Trail right off of Harlem Ave. It's a small camp but it's real close to you. They have overnight week camp or camp during the day only. My daughter (12 yrs. old) and her friends want to go to it this summer.

Hi A., no I have never heard of this camp you mention but there is a great camp in Frankfort which is even closer to you. It's called Camp Manitoqua. They have over night camp and day camp. My 11 year old went there last summer and loved it!! I liked the fact that is was so close, I live in Frankfort. The cost was under 300 for the week of overnight camp. All my kids have gone there for day camp also and they loved it. Camp Manitoqua really finds the best college students for counselors and they have a really cool pool with 2 water slides.

Hi A.,

I haven't heard of the camp you mentioned in Manteno, but the Homewood-Flossmoor Park District has some great day programs in every summer if you're interested. If you go to www.hfparks.com, click the Recreation Programs button at the bottom and then on the right, download their seasonal brochure. I believe another program brochure comes out later in A. with even more camp info, so be sure to check back, but there are some listed there as well. My oldest is 6, so the younger kids do different things, but my nieces on the north side of Chicago came 2 years in a row to do a week of the nature camps at Irons Oaks through HF Park District and they loved it. They were 10 and 13 at the time.

When I was younger I went to Camp Manitoqua in Frankfort. I have no idea how it is priced now, but I had tons of fun when I was younger.

Have you checked out South Holland's day camp program? www.southholland.org and click on Summer camp programs. It's an eight week long program from 9-3 i believe.

My kids are younger, however they really enjoy themselves and the staff is wonderful.

I think that I am going to try Camp Wonderland, it is through the Salvation Army, they have different session, they go away for 4 days and I was told that it was only $25.00 check it out www.campwonderland.com Good Luck.
