Suggestions Needed for Stair Mounted Gates

We will be moving into a home where we need safety gates installed both at the top and bottom of the stairs. There are only only wooden banisters to mount the gates to. Does anyone have any suggestions on a gate or gate adapter kit to buy that will work on stairs, but I don't want to drill into the wood of the banister? Or, anyone have suggestions for a child proofing company that can do this for me?

We had a similar problem at the bottom of our stairs and ended up buying this gate that we screwed into the walls. It has three panels and can fit in an odd space:

We purchased the Evenflo Wide Spaces Gate to mount behind our banister at the top of the stairs. We also did not want to drill into the banister. But we did have to mount it into the wall behind the banister. You can buy extension pieces to make it fit properly according to how wide your banister/wall space is.
I found this just now when trying to find the evenflo wide spaces gate, and it looks like a good alternative. Good luck.

This may sound weird or crazy but my husband did not want to damage our banisters so what he did is attached the gate to a 1x4 with screws and then attached the 1x4 to the bannister with zip ties- heavy duty zip ties. No damage on our railing and it holds up AWESOME. I have had it on there for 3 years now. My daughter is 4 and my son is almost 2. They will be coming down in about a year or so and when it does there will be no evidence that we had gates there. :o) good luck- I hope this helped. :o)

Try the One Step Ahead catalog.....the woman I work for says she got her gate stuff from them. (she lives in a tri-level)

There are many gates out there that I am sure will weork you just have to chekc them all out. I did daycare and had to use gates on my stairs also. I had one where you would push a button and pull the handle up and it would come off completely. It worked good for me, very secure. But tey also have ones that attach to the wal and swing open, etc. I don'tknow who makes them but I'm sure a baby stores would have many for you to look at. All stairs are alittle different. I woul look online. I also know that there is a company that comes ut and baby proofs your house as oneof my moms did that but I don't know the name. Again maybe you can find something online. I think there is a baby store in Oakbrook.Good Luck
