Suggestions for Weight Loss

I know some Moms, like me, who are lazy to exercise. I lost 20 lbs after I gave birth to my Youngest Daughter. That was 13 months ago. I still have the last 10 lbs to go. I tried Green tea & have watched what I've been eating. I weigh in once a week & I'd lose 1-2 lbs or gain 1-2 lbs each time. I think I'm ready to try weight loss pills. I'm so frustrated. Does anyone know of any pills that actually work. I know I have to exercise if I really want to lose weight. But I want something where I won't have to. I guess it would be some kind of "miracle pill." Please help!

What can I do next?

Hi Mary,
So, my first question is: Do you want to teach your children that the only way to loose weight is by taking drugs? I am sure you are going to say no. For goodness, you only have 10 LBS to go!! That is amazing. Now, kick it up a notch and teach your kids the healthy way of living and losing weight. Get out the runner stroller and go roller blading. Make a commitment to take the kids for an hour walk a day. Once you add exercise to your life (and you know this) your endorphin's increase and your motivation to choose healthier foods. Whatever you do...don't do the DRUG thing. You never know the outcomes and I am sure you want to be around for your kids later in life!

There is no miracle pill. You must burn more calories than you put in to lose weight and that requires diet changes and exercise. The only diet that works is a healthy diet that you will stick to forever (so nutrition plan not really a "diet" that you will go off of). Exercise for weight loss is 60-90 min per day most every day of the week. Build up to that gradually. Diet pills do not work - they can cause fatal heart problems and the minute you stop them, you gain all the weight back. Talk to your doctor for help, a nutrition consult, see a personal trainer, etc. I am a doctor and this is what I tell my patients and they have done well when motivated.

No miracle pills! Exercise! Working out is not a bad or a hard thing to do. You can workout in your home, buy some hand weights and use things like stairs in your home. You can let your 2 1/2 year old ride a bike around the block and you can push the 1 year old in a stroller. You need to do it soon or you will be stuck with those extra pounds and most likely add more. I am 8 months pregnant with my second and take my 3 year old on a bike ride around the neighbor hood every night after dinner. Things like Jenny Craig help for the moment but once you stop most likely you will put the weight back on. Pills are very bad, remember Phen Phen? Good Luck

M.,

I have been feeling the same way. I am truly lazy when it comes to exercise...I absolutely despise running. I gained 42 lbs. with my daughter and seem to have shed the first 20 lbs. with a blink of an eye. The next 20 lbs. I seem to be going up and down those 2 lbs. as well. If you truly want to lose the weight (which I hate to hear as well) you need to work out :) The weight lose pills can be so dangerous to depend on to help with weight. And getting into shape will help you keep up with your children when they get older. So, I will keep you in my thoughts as I get myself into shape. I wish there was a "miracle pill."

If there was a pill I would take it! I've never heard of one that really works, though. I did manage to lose my last few pounds by joining sparkpeople.com - it's a free site that has a calorie counter where you just put in what you ate that day and it automatically calculates how much fat, calories, etc. for you. It was a real eye-opener and helped me figure out why I wasn't losing before. It also has a ton of info about nutrition & motivation that really helped me.

Hi M.!
I had a hard time losing weight after my daughter was born. I was desperate to get back to my pre-pregnancy weight so I went on the no carb Atkins diet. It was very extreme and it did work. However, I couldn't realistically eat that way for a long time and I have my doubts as to how healthy that is. I've never been able to find a "miracle pill", sadly. But what finally worked for me the best was Weight Watchers. What I didn't know until I asked my doctor, was that some medical insurance plans will actually pay for you to go to Weight Watchers (Kaiser and Molina, I know about but there may be others). I learned alot about portion control and maintained my weight without excercise, and best of all I still eat my favorite foods!! (I have a weakness for taco shops ;).

Good Luck!

I don't think that there's a magic pill or other wise we would all be skinny. I did take Alli last year and lost 14 ounds and have never gained it back. I did realize that it really was what I was eating. The Alli did help but I needed to make that change myself in my eating. The Alli books are great to read to help you understand what you are putting in your body. So if you can cut out the dairy fat and exercise that would be great. You will see a differance and feel it.

Phentermine! It is definitely a "miracle pill" if you ask me. You can ask your doctor for it if you are severly overweight, but if not, you can buy it online. Its about $208 for 3 months worth of pills. If you decide to do it, get the ones that are 37.5 mg. They Work!!! I have used them off/on for the last 8 years after pregnancy, etc. and they do not disappoint. Make sure you use the correct spelling when searching online for them because there are a couple different spellings and they try to get you to buy the wrong ones. It's Phentermine. Any questions feel free to email me.

I know exactly how you feel. I was exactly where you are, a few months ago. I tried everything. I have always remained the same weight, after all 3 of my kids. I always found myself back down to a size 6 to 8. A few months back, I was pregnant, i gain most of my weight in my first trimester, and thats what happened. Then i lost the baby, the weight though remained. My energy level was shot to hell, too. I tried everything, from eating better, to weight loss programs to Alli, all of it. A few weeks ago, i started on Monavie Active. I weighed in, on August 3, within 1 week i lost 5 pounds, i try not to weigh myself everyday, like i used to, my last weigh in was August 18th, i had by then lost 9 pounds. so in 15 days i lost 9 pounds. And im still going. I love this drink cause of the goodness that it offers, its not a diet pill and its not a diet drink, its a blend of 19 fruits, including the Acai Berry, which only comes from the Amazon. Its not concentrated either, its all there, from the peels to the seeds, its a free radical agent, which fights dieseses. It has also given me my energy back, i can actually play with my kids and keep up with my house. It is said to be the best thing that you can do for your family, there is also a blend just for pregnant woman and children. Please before you go out and buy diet pills, which are all not good for you, look into this, stay healthy, for your children. Visit my website, Drink39.com my info. is there if you have any questions at all, it really works, im living proof. You can call me if you have any questions. ###-###-####

Wish there was a miracle pill :P. Well eat from smaller plates (that will reduce your portion size), eat slow (then you will actually feel full) and prepare snack bags (with cut apples, grapes, celery) in advance so they are ready to go when you feel like munching/don't buy chips and cookies (then you won't eat them).

Best luck, L.

Hi Mary,

I know a lot about fighting the "bulge". For your health's sake, please do not resort to diet pills. You are too important to your kids to take the risk of the various side effects. Anything that increases your metabalism is going to put a strain on your vital organs, such as your heart. Trust me, I have tried various diet pills and felt like my heart was racing with most of them. I mistakenly thought that maybe another brand would work and not give me the same feeling, so I tried quit a few. Although I did lose a few pounds, and by few I mean FEW, those pounds came back very quickly once I stopped the pills and my metabalism returned to normal.

The solution I did find and in which I lost 52 pounds, was metabalife. This is not a pill, and I have no direct connection with this company. They have protein drinks and soups, and puddings that taste great. They all come in envelopes and you add water. You have five servings a day of the shakes or soups or whatever and one regular meal a day consisting of meat, fish, or chicken, or anything high protein plus vegetables and a salad. All their formulas are soy based, so make sure you are not allergic to soy. I mention this because my sister is allergic to soy and did not realize the products were soy based and had a bad reaction to them. Thank goodness, I have no such allergy.

You could easily drop your 10 pounds in a few weeks with this program. If you do decide to give it a try, you just search online for metabalife. You will find many sites as they have health advisers that also sell the product. To save some money, look for sites that offer you $25.00 off, even on a small order. Some sites only offer a discount if your order is over $200.00. For only ten pounds, you do not need a full months supply. And there are sites that will give you $25.00 off a smaller order.

I hope you try this or another safe alternative, such as weight watchers, and avoid the diet pills. Think of your health first. I know we all get desperate, especially when it comes to those last ten pounds. If you can exercise a little, maybe just a walk with your kids everyday, your weight will come off faster. When we just diet and cut calories, our metabalism slows down, exercise reeves it up again. I had to make life long changes to keep off the 52 pounds, its been two months now of "normal eating" and I am keeping it off!!

You are a beautiful women to your husband and children both inside and out and they would not want you to take chances with your health. I wish you and your family all the best.

God Bless,
Kathy

I agree with Kelly! Exercise doesn't have to be strenuous, just a simple walk with the kids or chasing your two and a half year old around will do. I was going to recommend Weight Watchers which I've done (and am still doing) with both of my girls. With both pregnancies, I gained 50 pounds! And I've lost it both times on Weight Watchers. The meetings are great and they even have a mommy meeting that you can take your kids to and meet other moms in your same situation. Weight Watchers works because it is a lifestyle you can live with. You can still eat what you want. A pill is not the answer. Even if it does work, it will only be a temporary fix. Good luck M.!

There's no easy way to lose weight. And no magic pill. The answer is simple, eat well, and exercise. It's the best and only healthy solution to weight loss. Do it for your kids, do it for yourself. You will feel so much better. You won't feel "lazy" once you get into a routine - even if it's just popping the youngest into a stroller and going for a 30 minute walk every morning! Having lost 20 lbs is quite an accomplishment!! Be proud of yourself, and know that it's always harder to take off the last lbs.!! I'm a wellness rep and we have delicious weight loss products that might help you. Drinks and energy bars, etc... contact me for more information! Good luck.

I hate to say it, but there is no miracle pill. I am a fitness instructor(for the last 10 years. Having toddlers I only teach one day a week). It's what we all don't want to hear: diet and exercise. There might be something you find you do like though that will help you exercise without having to get you to a gym or doing videos. Maybe you could find a nice park or somewhere with a path and walk your toddlers in a double stroller for a half an hour each day. Pushing them will definitely push off the pounds and you could have some fun with them too. You could try some mommy and me gym classes. Maybe your husband could watch the kids a couple nights a week and you could try some relaxing yoga or maybe even swim.

Just some ideas....I too wish that pill were out there, but it's just not!

P.S. I have my own 7 lbs to go and am in the same boat as you. I do enjoy exercising, but am finding the time to do it, and the energy, scarce right now.

Sorry to say it but, you are going to have to start moving. It doesn't mean hours at the gym. Try just going for a walk with your family. You might be surprised with just a little extra activity it might start coming off. It was a promotion and change in work location that added the extra walking for me, but I have lost 11 pounds in the last 2 months. It will help, plus you are still spending the time with your family. It's also the best way to keep it off and teach your kids healthly habits. The quick fixes never last. Good luck.
