Suggestions for Organic Mascara

I'd like any suggestions on organic mascara that works well and does not burn your eyes when your eyes tear up or get watery that you peronally used. I usually do the trial and error thing, but organic mascara is too pricey for me to do that right now. I appreciate your time and suggestions.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?™

Thank you for all your input! I purchased mascara from Physicians Formula and selected another brand off that website LeeLee suggested. Awesome website! Allthough I have to manipulate the way I put it on due to the brushes, I'm satisfied with my organic/natural/non toxic mascara. Both did not burn my eyes, yay!

While I'm all for organic in most things... makeup is one of those things you have to be careful about... many (most even) natural & organic pigments are toxic toxic toxic.

(cadmium-yellow-, lead-white/or as a fantastic red base because it's so "smooth" hence why a lot of lipsticks and face powders for millennium had lead in them, cobalts-blues, arsenics-lol...arsenics are actually *really* good for your skin and hair, bad for the rest of you though, etc.) When you get into blacks for mascara it gets even dicier... because you're either talking manganese or charred wood. Charred woods release a lot of acids... and some leech tons and tons of toxins. Your eyes absorb more chemicals than any other part of your body (why gasmasks always include the eyes)... so having charred wood on your eyelashes, you'll feel the effects a lot easier than on any other part of your body.

It's the reason why SO much testing (chemical and animal) has gone on in the makeup industry. Artists know that they have to be really really careful with their colors (for the same reason... organic colors are sooooo poisonous... if they grind their own pigments they have to be even more careful to guard against breathing in the chemicals as well as to keep them off of their skin.

The organic push, though, has created a lot of danger in makeup... from people out to make a quick buck, and from those who don't know any better (and I'm not snobbing this... we have chickens and a food garden, recycle everything, etc. etc. etc.)... just a warning from a health perspective to be very very careful with organic makeup.

not sure about organic but this is a fabulous ALL NATURAL company and my cousin who works corporate for Sephora loves it.

Here is also a Natural & Organic section of their site, there are usually good reviews on a lot of the products.

Many drugstores offer your money back if you don't like cosmetics you buy there -check the return policy.

This is by Physicians Formula (which is sold in your local CVS or Long's Drug stores):

This one is also hypoallergenic and reasonably priced.

Or this one by Aveda:

You can also do a Google search on organic mascara and see what the reviews are.

Good luck,
Susan

Physicians Formula Organic Wear Mascara!

I've been using it for a few months now and I love it! It works well, doesn't have a strong smell, and doesn't flake normally, although I have noticed that there might be just a little bit if you've worn it a really long time. And just the other day I was crying with it on and it didn't burn at all.

They don't have this product in the EWG Cosmetic Database mentioned by another poster, I check all my products there, but I've checked the ingredients and it's pretty good. It's $8.69 at the Target near me right now. (By the way I've also used their powder/highlighter/bronzer pallate and I like it too! Not as crazy about the tinted moisturizer though, it smells funny.) :)

Hi A.,
I don't have any organic mascara recommendations for you, but have you looked at the Environmental Working Groups testing of cosmetics/body products? You might look up the best-rated (i.e. lowest toxicity to the body) mascaras and go from there...
Our family now lives by this site and we don't purchase anything for our body without consulting it first. I'm a huge supporter of EWG!

hello and Happy New Year from Hawaii...lol...I too, had so much problem with all sorts of mascaras from Estee Lauder to Cover Girls, Mary Kay, etc. then I tried the Sephora and Mac at the Mall, and that is where I found me the type that I have been so happy with for six months now. I purchase a new one every two to three months so my lashes can grow healthy...you might be happier with the results... :)

HI A.,
I like 100% pure & there's one other brand i've tried that's great! (can't think of the name now)
Belly Sprout (a natural parenting and makeup store in Fullerton) sells both brands along with lots of other non-toxic and organic makeup/skincare. www.bellysprout.com
Good luck!
