Suggestions for a Double Stroller

Seeking suggestions for a good quality double stroller. When baby #2 comes I will need one to accomodate both a newborn and a big toddler (27 lbs at the moment). I want something lightweight & easy to steer-would as prefer the side-by-side type. Any advice would be appreciated! thanks!

I am a mother of twins and i do not suggest the graco side by side stroller. It was nice when you were out in the open but, it is double wide and most doors are not.

I have a Graco DuoGlider & I love it. It's not side by side, though. It's easier to steer & push than my single stroller. You will need a Graco infant carrier for your baby. I already had an Eddie Bauer carrier but borrowed a Graco one. When shopping make sure you put your son in to see if he fits. My son was too big for the front seat of some models. Babycenter.com has reviews that I've found helpful.

I had a Maclaren side by side. It was the twin traveler. I liked it because it fit through doors and was easy to steer, but it was very hard to fold and unfold. You definetly cannot do it with a baby in your arms and it was heavy. It is a very good quality stroller and would last a long time, but if you are worried about the folding while holding a baby-- I would stay away from it. A friend has the Peg Perego tandem stroller and she loves it. She has no complaints. Good Luck!

I would not recommend a side by side b/c they are so wide and it's difficult to get around stores, crowds, etc.

I got the front and back double stroller from Target (it was around $90) and I didn't like it very much at all. It wasn't made that well (a wheel feel off in the middle of a walk) and it was so bulky and a real pain to haul even in my SUV. I eventually got the sit and stand from Target. It's a little bulky but I guess there's really no way to avoid that since they are built for 2. If your toddler would stay in the sit and stand I would recommend it. Hope this helps.

I have a Mountain Buggy Urban Double. It is a good quality stroller, but it can be tough to fold. Plus, it is heavy. For a side by side it fits through doorways well. I really like having the ability to unlock the front wheels for walking on pavement, and lock them to go offroad.

The typical strollers you see, the graco duoglider, evenflo take me too etc are going a bear to push. If you are looking at Babies R Us mainly your other choice would be the Combi Twin Savvy or the Peg Perego Aria Twin. Both have small seats so depending in the size of the 27 lber that could be an issue so I would try him in it. Of those 2 I would recommend the Combi over the Peg. The Combi has a flat recline and enclosable seat for a newborn, it is also a bit more stable and easier to steer one handed b/c of the 3rd set of rear wheels in the rear middle. Babies R Us carries the sport model which does not have an adult cupholder or child tray but you can order the EX model online which has both.

If you dont mind ordering online though there are also the Maclaren side by side doubles and they some of those have bigger seats and higher weight limits. You can check out maclarenbaby.com for info on their different models. There are also the higher priced models online as well. Some real favorites are the Mountain Buggy Urban double, the Baby Jogger City Series double, and the Phil and Teds E3. But you would be looking at over $500 for one of these. But if you have that to spare dont let the jogger look of the first 2 scare you, they have swivel wheels so steer well and they are not too wide to fit through a standard doorway so can make it in the mall

Hello J.,
I would HIGHLY recommend a double jogging stroller (even if you're not a jogger :). It's a side-by-side and has reclining seats that work fine for an infant. I just shoved some blankets around the sides of my baby, and she was happy as a lamb. Get the kind with the front wheel that swivels (is not fixed in place), as it is much easier to turn.
We have an InStep Safari TT and I absolutely love it! We actually got it from Play It Again Sports, which was great because we could try it out before we bought it. I think we paid between $200-250 for it. They retailed about the same on the internet, as I recall, but we didn't have to pay shipping.
We previously had an old Graco (not a side-by-side), and I had all sorts of trouble with it. The jogger is lighter, easier to push & turn (can do it one-handed), and collapses easily with one hand as well. You do have to have a minivan or SUV to fit it into, though.
Good luck!
