Stylish and Functional Diaper Bag???

Does one exist? Baby will be here in a few weeks and I am still unprepared. Going through my list of things I'll need and this is one of them. Don't want the typical diaper bag (you know, the types that *look* like a diaper bag), something that looks more fashionable and less baby-ish. Thanks in advance!.

Well, I'm not sure if this answers your question exactly, but I opted for an Eddie Bauer diaper bag that looks just like a navy blue backpack. The choice of the backpack style and a color that would not look "feminine" were intended to ensure that my husband would do his share of carrying the diaper bag when we went out together, and as a matter of fact, this plan has worked. :) Just something to consider.

I have seen some diaper bags in department and discount stores that look like a sort of messenger bag in neutral colors, such as black. That might fit your purpose of looking somewhat more stylish and would also be gender-neutral.

After buying a pretty pricey diaper bag I found that a backpack was a must! So I opted for Vera Bradley's large backpack. It's awesome. Fits a ton ... and has a pocket on either side that my Avent bottles fit in perfectly. And since they usually have some of the backpacks on their sale page online I was able to get it 1/2 off!

I agree...diaper bags are just SO not cute! When my second child was born I just bought a really big purse and it has served me just as well as diaper bag. The only real drawback is the lack of tall pockets for bottles, but I'm still nursing so this is not an issue right now. Baghaus.com has a HUGE selection of bags at all sizes and they show you them on a model so you get an idea of proportion. I have a part leather, part high quality vinyl bag that wipes down easily and is about 14" deep and 17" across. If you want one with pockets, you might check out the Vera Bradley line since the quilted bags are really popular. Good luck with your new little boy!

my husband is the stay at home diaper bag toting awesome papa.

our diaper bag, he says, was one of our better purchases. it's rugged, wipes off if there are messes, and holds a ton.

I would just get a purse that has the qualities that you are looking for. There are SO many great ones out there. Not sure what you price point is but if you can afford them Coach and Kate Spade make some very cool diaper bags if thats what you want. $$$ though.

My current diaper bag is my 7th (haha) and my last (and well worth the $45)!!!
http://www.babiesrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2748...

It takes a lot of wear and tear, has a great insulated bottle pocket on one side, a neat keychain hook and many other things I love. Oh, the diaper changing pad also has pockets for storing diapers, wipes, bags for tossing out the diapers.

they're a bit pricey, but (www.petuniapicklebottom.com) Petunia Pickle Bottom makes some really great non-diaper bag looking bags that are very functional with some great fabric patterns.

ETA: I have the "Boxy Backpack" it looks like a boxy messenger bag that you can wear either as a backpack (which I did) or a messenger bag. But it looks like now they've got TONS of other bags.

I used a diaper bag for my 1st child. After her, I used a regular bag not a diaper bag. This way it was cheaper and stylish.

I saw a Vera Bradley diaper bag that was very nice at a second hand store. I would have bought it, if I still needed one. None of my kids are in diapers anymore.

I wouldn't have paid full price for one though. Ebay has lots of Vera Bradley bags for sale. You might try that.

HANDS DOWN, the best stylish non baby looking diaper bag is from VERA BRADLEY. I have have had numerous diaper bags looking for THE ONE that met all my needs, and without question, Vera Bradley is the best.

I also have a Coach diaper bag, and while it is a super nice bag, it is super heavy, and doesn't have all the neat compartments and stuff that I wanted. Plus the straps don't slip over my shoulder easily, as they are a little too short. I may eventually use it for a tote or something, but NOT the best diaper bag.

I have also tried other diaper bags, and none compared to the stylish, fun, colorful, lightweight versatility of the Vera Bradely bags. VB does make an actual Baby Bag:

http://www.verabradley.com/Site/Store/ProductDetail.aspx?...

which might be the best choice if you don't have a changing pad, etc., but both I and a cousin of mine swear by the "Vera" which we use as a diaper bag, a tote, basically a carry-all of sorts that will take you way beyond your diaper bag years! You would just have to supply your own changing pad... Otherwise, it has 4 interior pockets that perfectly fit bottles or sippee cups, and other pockets for organizing, as well as a longer handle that fits easily over the shoulder, and a roomy interior for all the essentials. Plus, they have matching wallets, and tons of other accessories. And it's machine washable!! Does it get any better? Here's the link to the Vera...

http://www.verabradley.com/Site/Store/ProductDetail.aspx?...

They are not inexpensive so to speak, but they are worth every penny... and they last forever.

Hope you try one and enjoy it as much as I do! The only problem is once you have one, you might get hooked... they are kind of addictive, with the new prints each season... lol :)

And no, I am not a VB retailer! Just a very satisfied customer... :)

Oh, and if you buy one of the retiring colors, you can get those at a pretty nice discount! Can you tell I've done this before? lol

Best of luck finding a diaper bag that suits you! It's something you spend a lot of time with in the first few years, as you know!

I just received a very stylish brown suede diaper bag at my babyshower yesterday. I believe it is Carter's brand. It's available from BabiesRUs. It's a messanger bag style with a pretty blue and brown polkadot lining. I almost cried when I opened it because I was so excited to have a diaper bag that didn't look like the typical diaperbag!
