Stuffy Nosed Newborn

My 6 week old constantly has a stuffy nose. Any suggestions on how to help her breathe better? Any solutions or drops that I could use?

Thank you to you all for your fabulous advice!! I will try the saline drops and then the suction ball. I'll give it a week and if it's still bad, I'll call my Pedi to see if she needs to be checked out for allergies or a cold. Thank you again!!!!

Hi! Why don't you try using vicks;the one mothers uses on their new born babies or that rubber thing Hospital uses when mothers just gave birth to their unborn child.sorry but thats all I can think of right now

Snot suckers are great once you get the hang of them. Saline drops can help. However keeping her propped up slightly is the best - it helps draining. She can either sleep in her "bouncy" seat or you can put a towel under her bassinet mattress to raise it SLIGHTLY. (note that she may slip down and get scrunched at the foot of the bassinet so this may not be the best way to go at such a young age)

Hi there
I live in Lake Tahoe and it is very dry, I have always just mixed up water and sea salt for my kids, I use an eye dropper and just drop a little in each nostril. I then use a nose bulb to suck the gunk out, seems to work very well and they can breathe!! I have a new baby boy born on april 28 and have been useing it on him in the mornings.
Breathe well

Hylands C plus cold tablets are great; they disolve instantly and really help with the stuffy noses; it's all natrual too.

Kathy-
Congratulations on your little girl!

Try saline drops, one in each nostril. You can make this at home, google the portions, it's just salt and water, or call your doctor. Also, a humidifier helps.

My 6 weeks old has had one almost since she was 3 weeks old, thanks to her 11 month old sister. My pediatrician told us to buy a humidifier and run it in their room. It has been close to 3 weeks and we run it 24/7 and they are both doing so much better. My baby was born the same day yours was. Congrats!!!!

I had the same problem with my last daughter and the doctor suggested to use saline drops to loosen it and then you can suck them out with the bulb syringe. It seem to work for us. You can get the saline solution at any retail drug store or wal-mart. Good luck!

Ohh...My now grown daughter was like that..turned out she had tons of allergies...not fun..
best wishes

I have a 7 wk old that had a stuffy nose for the first 2 weeks. We were told to use the Saline drops then the nose aspirator (bulb). Also, at night we were to use a humitifier at night to keep the air moist. Good Luck!

My daughter (now 15 months) had the same problem and it drove me crazy. I sucked her nose all the time with the snot sucker and used saline drops. We ran the humidifier a lot but it didn't really help. At about 8 months or so I started using infant Vicks on her chest and that seemed to help a lot, but I am not sure what the minimum age is. We finally accepted the fact that she has allergies, because as she got older she would constantly have a runny nose or cough. We decided to buy an air purifier and since then it has made a drastic change. She hasn't had a runny nose since ( and this was during allergy season). We run it in her room 24 hours a day and I think she likes the low humming of it. It is portable and only cost $70 for the Hunter brand with Hepa Filter.
