Stretch Marks - Dallas,TX

Hi moms! Ok my son is now 3 yrs old and ever since my pregnancy my stomach is not so pretty! The marks on my stomachs are not your typical stretch mark its more like wrinkley loose skin right below my belly button. Is the only way to smooth out my skin going to be cosmetic surgery? Possibly a tummy tuck??? I really don't want to go that route but I just don't see how a lotion can tighten my skin back up. Lots of my friends and celebrities i see on tv have nice and pretty flat stomachs after having there babies, and I couldn't be caught dead in a bikini anymore! I weighed 105 at the beginning of my pregancy and by the end i was at 168 lb so I am guessing the difference between me and those other women is that i gained too much weight. Today I am at 120 lb which is good, but it seems the more i lose the uglier my stomach looks...more wrinkles more loose skin. On a scale of 1-10 I say its about a 7 of being really bad stretch marks. I am not sure if its too bad that surgery would be my only option. If anyone knows of a miracle type lotion or anything else that would work please recommend. Or if anyone has experienced this same problem and knows that no lotion would work and cosmetic surgery is the only way to go than could you please recommend a good reasonable cosmetic dr. Please help! Thanks

What can I do next?

Welcome to most normal women's post-partum bodies! I have the wrinkly skin thing too -it's the one time in your life when your belly looks WORSE the more weight you lose! I feel I was lucky in the stretch-mark area given what I have seen on many women -only have them on my lower abdominal region where the wrinkly skin is -but it's still unattractive! Sorry to tell you -there are no "miracle creams" or treatments. The only way to rid yourself of them and have a smooth, showable tummy again is a tummy tuck!

***A note about celebrities and friends with smooth, flat tummies -most people who experience this got the luck of the draw in the gene pool! Some women are lucky enough to have a genetic makeup that doesn't seem to call for lots of stretch marks or stretched out tummies after pregnancy. As far as celebrities go -you would be SHOCKED at just how many DO have plastic surgery who swear they do NOT. They also have personal trainers, nutritionists and dieticians who help them throughout each pregnancy and immediately afterward. And then there are all of the airbrushed photos that look like they have no stretch marks when if you saw them in real life -you might be shocked. And yes -gaining too much weight at any time, especially during pregnancy, will leave you will less than desired tummy issues afterward, but the only way to rid yourself of them is plastic surgery. Just make sure you have lost all the weight you can and do a lot of ab exercises -particularly Pilates -to tighten everything as much as possible. However -once the skin is stretched out and has lost its elasticity -there are no exercises to help it.

I've got that slightly loose, wrinkly skin, and I'm just going to live with it. I work out a LOT, and my abdominal muscles are in great shape. It's just excess skin, and for me, it's not a priority. If it is for you, I am afraid that the surgery is the only way to go. I don't know of a good surgeon for you to choose, but please do your research and find someone reputable with lots of experience. Sometimes the D Magazine does a listing of "best doctors in Dallas" and that might be a good place to start.

Good luck to you!
