My toddler tested positive for Strep Throat yesterday. I am going in to be tested today because I have started to show the same symptoms. My concern is that I may be pregnant (should find out later this week). I am concerned about being treated for strep throat while pregnant. Anyone else been through this?

What can I do next?

Sometimes you need to have antibiotics while pregnant. Illness happens. Just make sure your OB is aware of ALL medications you are taking. I took antibiotics for strep while pregnant with my first born. Both me and my baby came through it just fine.

We always weigh potential risk vs potential benefit - and that risk is treating and NOT treating. I had to take antibiotics many times while I was pregnant. The risk of not treating an infection can be life threatening to both mother and baby.

The only thing I wish I'd known about at the time was the huge importance of gut health, probiotics and prebiotics.

Well I was really sick at the end of my pregnancy, had fever, congested, I am pretty sure it was the flu. I just had to take sudafed and keep moving. I was so worried about being sick when I delivered, but well the baby was coming that was a sure thing, and it was all fine. If you think you might be pregnant just let the doctor know and they will take care of you accordingly. They may even do a blood or urine test to make sure. If you are so early it won't show up just tell the doc you don't want anything that could be harmful to an unborn child. Good luck, sorry you are feeling bad!! My baby just went through strep and now my older son has the flu!!! Hang in there :D

I was 6 weeks pregnant when I was diagnosed with strep. I had a round of Amoxil and was fine. I was worried because it was so early on, but everything was fine. You need to be treated so you don't have the infection in your body or battle fevers.

I had strep throat the first month I was pregnant. I did not know I was pregnant and took the meds... everything was just fine, I did tell my OBGYN and she said that taking the meds was fine, no harm from taking them. I have a healthy, smart, active 4 1/2 year old girl :)

Do also take probiotics/prebiotics if you need the antibiotics.

I had strep throat early in my pregnancy and was given a Z-pak. A few weeks after I finished the meds, I felt like it was coming on again. I was given another pak. My daughter was fine. If you are positive for strep, just make sure your physician knows there is a possibility you could be pregnant. Feel better.
