My son had his tonsils out last month. The last couple of days he has had throwing up, a fever on and off and a sore throat. Dr. put him on Zofran and said he might have strep again. Can you get strep after having your tonsils out? My son is complaining his throat is hurting like when he had strep.
Ok took my son in to the doctor today and he does not have strep. He does have a stomach virus and sinus infection which is what is causing the sore throat. Thanks!
Zofran is an anti-emetic used to prevent nausea and will not cure a strep throat, If your son has strep throat he needs an antibiotic.
I'm not sure, but I want to say you can get strep without tonsils. I've also heard of tonsils growing back, although I'm sure it doesn't happen as quick as a month. ???

Yes, You can have strep when you have had your tonsils out. I had mine out when I was 7 and I have had strep plenty of times since then.
Did the doc take a culture? If he thought it was strep then he should have done a culture right away. We just had one done yesterday, it takes 10 minutes.
As the others said, strep needs an antibiotic and can turn into scarlatina with a terrible red rash.

OH YES, you can get strep throat after getting your tonsils out. I had mine out when I was 7 and I still get strep throat every 4-6 months. The doctor thinks I may be a carrier. I actually just got over a terrible bout of strep throat and now am into a viral throat thing within the same month. Don't let anyone tell you that once the tonsils are gone so is the strep because it is just simply NOT TRUE!!! You can google it and find lots of sites to prove this point. Poor kid.. It is not fun to get your tonsils out and then to get strep in the same months again.. thats a bummer! I hope he recovers fast.

I had my tonsils out about 6 years ago. Before that, I'd get strep more than once a year. Since I've had my tonsils out, I've only had it once. But it can happen.

Yes you can have step without tonsils. Be careful with strep, if left untreated for too long it can damage your son's heart.
