Strange Pregnancy Question?

Okay, so I had my 20 week ultrasound about 8 weeks ago. The tech said that I am having another boy, which is my third! I was shocked! I really thought this one was a girl, not because I want a girl but I am carrying different and EVERYTHING is different this time! My doctor was also shocked. She really thought that it was a girl based on the heart rate, which I know is not accurate! She has been my doctor through all 3 pregnancies and she has even observed how different this one is compared to my first two! The ultrasound pic is also not clear like my first two! I really don't care if it is a boy or girl! I just want healthy! I know that ultrasounds are not a 100% accurate, but I was wondering if anyone has had a wrong ultrasound?

What can I do next?

It does happen. My sister was told it was a girl for her 4th child. She went all out with pink, she was quite shocked to see boy #3.

I have 2 boys and a girl and am 27 weeks pregnant with my fourth. This pregnancy has been identical to the first two but I am having another girl (completely different than with my first daughter). We have had several ultrasounds (all saying girl) because of complications and also an amniocentesis. The amnio reveals 100% the gender so I know for sure this one is a girl!

Oh yes! Not me, but my brother's friends. They were told 100% chance the baby would be a boy. Once it came out, they saw it was a girl!! What a shock!

I know a woman who had a girl and had been told it was a boy. The baby went for two weeks without a name because they were so surprised!

Good luck.

I was told our first was a girl at an ultrasound at 16 weeks and then was a boy at another 20 weeks ultrasound which I think is more common because usually what you see for a boy is pretty clear. :) My second pregnancy was EXACTLY like my first pregnancy and she's a girl...one boy and one girl pregnancies identical! And now I'm 23 weeks along with my third and this one is different than the other two...and I was told we're having another girl.

I don't know that you should guage sex by how different your pregnancy is...but that's my experience. Best of luck on your little one coming...whether boy or girl!

The only way to know your baby's gender is to see it in the flesh. I'm surprised your doctor talked to you about the heart rate--that has long since been dismissed as an old wives' tale. Carrying high, carrying low, fuzzy ultrasounds, clear ultrsounds, dreams--don't bank on any of them.

like our tech told us the only 100% sure way to tell of the sex of the baby is to deliver it. but she told us that she was confident that its a girl this time. ( i hope she is right after having 4 boys!) with my first three boys they were all very differnt. from the way i carried them one was high, one in the middle and one very low. the heart rates were also different. the dr told me that the heart rate can go one sex or another or also be how active the child is going to be. that fell true for me.. the two with the higher heart rates are way more active and bouncing off the walls at times and the third is more mellow and he had the slower heart rate. my sickness was also varied on all of my pregnancies.. from little to alot. i didn't have ultrasounds with my first three late enough to determine the sex of the babies, it was when i had them i knew. and honestly with all them i had a gut feeling what they were and my gut feeling was right.

It happens all of the time. An old co-worker of mine was told a girl and they had to have a late ulrasound and there it was determined that it was actually a boy. They had to repaint the nursery!

I'm currently 26 weeks pregnant with #2. My first child is a girl. This pregnancy has been COMPLETELY different so naturally I thought I was having a boy. My level II ultrasound showed a very clear picture of another girl!!! I've learned that every pregnancy is unique and you just can't predict anything! :) If you want to try another ultrasound, see if a local college has a sonography program. Call and ask if they need people to practice on! My friend did that when her regular US couldn't get a picture of the sex. I'm having a "just for fun" US at a local college on Thursday!

I've heard of it, but it hasn't happened to me. We found out our first was a boy at 11 weeks (by accident)- while I know that's REALLY early, it was confirmed at the 20 week ultrasound and was right on. We're now expecting twins in August, and found out at 18 weeks it's a boy and a girl... and hasn't changed since. I think accuracy really comes down to the skill of the ultrasound tech. Ours at our OB's office is fantastic... let us know what happens!

My sister in-law and a friend of mine were both supposed to have girls and ended up with boys, however I haven't personally heard of it the other way around. My SIL had at least 2 ultrasounds and they told her 100% girl. Ultrasounds aren't 100%!

This might be a little bit of a late response to you, but I thought I'd tell you about my situation. I had an ultrasound with my first child at 18 weeks and was told it was a girl. I didn't think it was very clear either, but the doctor seem to be pretty sure it was a girl. During the pregnancy I had some complications with preterm labor at 27 weeks and had several more ultrasounds throughout the pregnancy. I can't remember now how many weeks I was, but one of those ultrasounds the nurse told me it was a boy. I couldn't believe it because we had been told it was a girl several times, but the nurse showed me clearly on the screen that it was definitely a boy. Yes, I believe that an early ultrasound can be wrong because I did in fact have a boy. With a boy though they can usually see their equipment to assume it's a boy. I have also heard that an umbilical cord has been mistaken for a being a boy because of how the baby was turned.
I hope this helps and you do get that little baby girl that you want. I also have 2 boys and would love to have a little girl, but I've not been brave enough to try again yet...
By now your close to delivery time and I would like to know if it was a boy or a girl.If you would please update us.
Good luck and best wishes.

I did not have a wrong ultrasound, because we didn't find out, but two of my best girlfriends did. The first was supposed to be having a 10lb boy and out pops a 6lb girl. The other was supposed to have a petite little girl, and she has a ginormous boy! Hence, why we chose not to know. They're so unreliable. Good Luck to you and your family with your new little one, whatever it is!
