Strange Headaches...

Hi. First my apologies if this got sent out twice. I'm 27 years old and a few days ago began to get headaches on the right side of my head only (from the temple down to the jaw and sometimes behind the eye). The headaches are moderate to severe (similar to migraine pain) in intensity and last only 20 seconds or so. They are recurring about every 5-15 minutes. If you count that up it's about 100 attacks a day. Between attacks I have a constant dull ache on that side of my head. They become more frequent with activity. I haven't had any changes in diet or sleep. Has anyone else experienced this? I've looked online and found something called Paroxysmal Hemicrania (CPH) which fits my symptoms...does anyone have this condition? I know, I know, I should go to the doctor and not diagnose myself, but I would love to hear if anyone else out there as this problem! Thanks!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thank you all for your responses. Apparantely my headaches didn't like going public and stopped mid-day yesterday. If they should come back and I will definitely go to the doc. Thanks everyone!

Try taking your blood pressure and see if it is elevated. Also this time of year is good for allergies to flare up. Even if you have never had problems with them before, you can develope them. I did.

I would start with a Chiropractor. It could very easily be just a pinched nerve. I would go this week, dont wait on them to return. You will be so glad you did!

I would go to the doctor asap you need a few things done like blood pressure checked and a talk with your doctor about what you feel it might be...then and only then would I consider seeking other medical advise outside of my own doctor or second opinions.

Many thoughts are with you.

In my "old life", before my son, I was (am) a Neuromuscular Massage Therapist. Before I would assume the worst I would visit a trustworthy Chiropractor and NMT for an evaluation. It could be something as simple as an active trigger point in your neck or shoulder that is sending pain referrals. A lot of muscular disorders are misdiagnosed by Drs because the pain caused by them are so similar to symptoms of nerve problems like carpal tunnel syndrome or sciatica. Most doctors simply prescribe a muscle relaxer and pain medication both which mask the symptoms without helping the problem. You don't have to have done anything significant to bring about the pain, most sudden onset muscular problems have actually been accumulating for years from things like computer work and other repetitive jobs and activities. Go to the Dr first, but if you get the usual rx of flexeril (sp?) and vicodin, seek some alternative therapies. If you are in the Lexington SC area maybe I can make a recommendation.

PLEASE, make an appt. with your doctor. Self diagnoses are for small things. This may take some time to figure out and why wait when you don't know. Start with your general doctor, ask questions, and request and MRI depending on your insurance. No one will take care of yourself better than you, so make the call today even if
you're feeling better. Good luck and hope things work out for you.

You know, it could be anything from an oral problem, TMJ, to migraine to something to really worry about. During your attacks, are you experiencing the other side effects of Paroxysmal Hemicrania? (increased sweating/tearing/runny nose, decreased salivation, etc.)

Yeah, you know self-diagnosis is a tricky thing. You really need to see your doctor and maybe a neurologist to check it out. There is no good reason for someone to suffer and not be SURE of what's going on. Just go and check it out. And good luck! I hope you're feeling better soon.

If anything, yes, you do need to go to the DR about this. Have you had your wisdom teeth removed yet? If not, the presure from the upper teeth can cause discomfort and pain like you have discribed also, allergies can cause this too.

Good luck!

I know exactly what you mean.. I have the same thing only it's the left side. I went to my neurologist who sent me to have an MRI, thankfully turned out to be nothing.. but i still have them from time to time. However, still not sure what it is..Looking at some of the other responses I may seek help from a chiropractor.
