Strange Cycle/Pregnancy Test Result

Hello Mommies-
I am just looking for other opinions. I am a just-turned-38 y.o. Mom of a 12 yr. old boy and 4 yr. old girl. My husband and I have decided to try to have another baby. We been keeping track of my cycle and the highest days of ovulation. My cycle is usually between 21-24 days, almost never going to day 25 or beyond. Last month I got my period on day 21. No surprise, it was the first month we were trying and I didn't expect to get pregnant that fast. This month, today is Day 28 and I have no symptoms of my period. I took and Early Pregnancy Test and was actually surprised it was negative. When I got pregnant with my daughter I was on the pill and the test was positive on day 29 (Of course bc I am never late!) What could be going on? Of course I'll take another test in a few days if my period still does not show up, but in the meantime I'm wondering if anyone else has taken a test on Day 28 of their cycle with a negative result only to find out soon after they were indeed pregnant?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?™

Thank you, Mommies for responding with your experiences. We are not pregnant after all, but I had a very rare (for me), long 29-day cycle. We will continue to try with the help of an ovulation predictor kit since my cycle has been unpredictable. Thank you for all the good wishes and advice! I knew I could count on other Moms for support!

I got positives day period was due with first morning urine. Good luck!!

I was about a week late w/ both pregnancies before I got a positive test.

When I was preg. with my now 3 year old and soon to be baby #2 every test I took came back Negative till I was 6 1/2 weeks. So I would contact your OBGYN to do a blood test. This way you would know for sure. Good luck with the new one if you are.

I too am an almost 38 year old and my husband I decided early this month to try for baby #4. I am usually pretty regular and have not been on BC for about 3 years. We just know when my cycle is and are very careful. So I was pretty sure of when I was going to ovulate (anywhere from 8/5-8/8). I started having a good bit of indigestion last weekend which is unusual. I took a pregnancy test (first response early HPT) on 8/15 which had a VERY faint positive line. I took a few since and each had a very faint line even with first urine. I was due to have my period on 8/21 and I didn't start. I have been very tired, using the restroom a lot and thirsty. So I took two tests this afternoon (First response & EPT) and they were NEGATIVE!!??? I am pretty confused since I should be about 17 dpo? Thoughts?

Wait a couple of days, you might be pregnant and your hormone levels aren't high enough yet. With both my pregnancies, I purposely waited until day 31 or 32 to test but kind of already knew I was pregnant because I charted my temps and it remained high, which is a sign that you are likely pregnant. Unless you've been charting your temp might not mean much to you now, but I'd just retake a test in the next couple of days. Good luck!

I took First Response a few days after my missed period and it was negative. Three days later, I took a First Response test again and it can out negative again. A few days after that I took the Walmart brand and found out what I KNEW all along. I was pregnant!!! Don't trust First Repsonse. The same thing happened with my first pregnancy and I still kept believeing the commercials. I will never agin use FR! Good luck! :)

I see that the issue resolved itself, but I just wanted to say that when I was pregnant with my daughter (now 21 months old), I was 8 days late, and all pregnancy tests were negative, as well as a BLOOD test done by my PCP who I saw because I had not had a period in almost 6 weeks, but was not pregnant. She informed me that the test came back negative and to wait it out, or take another pregnancy test. Finally, two full weeks late, I took a pregnancy test that was positive. Sometimes the hormone levels can be tricky, and so you get a false negative. Just to keep in mind for the future... And best of luck with trying for another blessing :)
