Storing Pumped Breastmilk

Hi Mom's,

My son is 8 months old and he's only breastfed. I pump at work and now that he's older I'm pumping more. I use reusable containers for milk storage, but they are only 6 oz. I'm starting to pump around 8 oz, then put it into two containers. Does anyone know of other reusable storage containers that hold more & where can I get them? I've been checking Kmart, Walmart, etc without any luck. I don't like the bags because I always seem to spill.
Thanks!

What can I do next?

I always just put it straight into the bottles instead of using those storage containers. Another thing you can do is put the milk in a freezer bag and just break it up when you are ready to use it. Some people have used the ice cube holders with lids on them and just pop them out like a regular ice cube when they were ready to use them.

If you pretty much use up the milk the day after you pump, Avent makes 6 and 8 ounces storage containers. They are made so you can actually put a nipple right on top and use it as a bottle, althoug I never did. When DD Was in Daycare this is how I woudl transport the milk because they stack very nicely. Although I only used the 6 ounce containers, the do make 8 ounce containers. Babies R Us has the 6 ounce and might have the 8 ounce as wel, but Amazon.com definitly has them. Here is the link so you know what I am talking about.

I don't know if they go in the freezer though.

I used the Avent 8 oz storage containers, they worked wonderfully and they sell the attachments at babies r us so that they can fit right onto your pump and they come with extenders that allow you to feed directly out of them by attaching the nipple. I know they sell the containers at Babies R Us and Motherhood Maternity stores because that is where I bought them. Good luck.

YAY for you to still be breastfeeding!

I checked ebay. Try typing in "breastmilk storage" "breastmilk bottles" and "breast milk bottles" and you'll get TONS of results. They had all sorts of bottles, including glass, as well as nifty little ice cube tray things to save space.

Congrats on continuing to nourish your child in such a wonderful way and good luck in your search!

Hello!
I really liked the Avent 8 oz containers. They attached to my pump and seemed to have a really good seal. Good luck and way to go with your nursing!!

Many of the "generic" bottles will fit the pumps.... I use the gerber feeding bottles and they fit the flanges just fine.

Good for you to be pumping 8 ounces at a time!!

have you tried the gerber storage bags. they stand up - we haven't had problems with those spilling. as for pumping and storing more. we tried to store in larger quantities once and found it didn't work as well - so we stuck with smaller storage portions because once you thaw it, you have to use it within a short time frame and i didn't want to waste.

I used plastic frozen sandwich bagies. They seemed to work well and you got a lot for your money.

I did use ziplocks to store the milk because I froze it also. I had enough milk to the freezer to last months after I stopped breatst feeding my son at 6 months old. He was only on formula for about a month. What I would do to avoid spilling is I would cut a corner off the bag to make a spout. It worked great for us and they would lay in the freezer flat so they did not take up that much room

T.:

congratulations on your pumping.

as 8 oz may be more than your son eats at a sitting you may be better off pumping it into 2 bottles. Milkmake's are 5 oz. the Medela is 6 and Hollister is 5.
