Stomach Flu - San Diego,CA

I was wondering how often your kids get the stomach flu? I am trying to determine what is common?

What can I do next?

The stomach flu seems to be prevalent around this time of year. My daughter has had it twice, my son one time. I know some parents who have kids that get it once or maybe twice a year.

My son will be 3 in February and has never had it... Now he'll probably get it. ;-)

My oldest is 7 and had a stomach bug 2x in his life but has only thrown up once in his life, he has his Dad's strong stomach!

Middle child is 5 and had it 2x and puked both times.

Youngest is almost 3 and just had it last week...her first time throwing up:(

I hate the stomach flu!

I am 33 and have only had the stomach flu with puking 1x (that I can remember) and that was as an adult!

My kids are typically pretty healthy. A cold here and there and the flu only occasionally. But one year, when the flu season was particulary bad, my oldest son (then in 5th grade) got the stomach flu FIVE times. He had it once a month starting in August. I was very concerned that something more was going on. His doctor told me that they were seeing quite a few similar cases. That because they were several different strains of the bug going around, he would get over one case of the flu only to catch the next one going around because his immune system was still a little weak from the previous case. She did say that if he were to get sick AGAIN (for the 6th time) she would run blood tests to rule out anything else but it never came to that. We did decide to get him the flu shot even though the shot was not supposed to fend off the stomach flu (always what he'd get) but maybe that helped? Anyhow, that was the one and only time that has happeneded to us and I have three other children and my son is now in 10th grade. :0)
