Lately my son has been complaining of a stomach ache on a daily basis. He has had stomach issues since birth being born with reflux that went away but came back a for a short period of time a couple of years ago. He is telling me that his stomach hurts lower down rather than higher up. Therefore I am not sure if its reflux or not. Tums are not helping. I am thinking of maybe trying Mylanta again (like we have before )for a few days before we go to the Dr. Any ideas on what it might be or what might help??
His diet is not good which may be contributing as well. He is EXTREMElY picky.
My son is 10 years old BTW and is taking Zyrtec on a daily basis for allergies. I was just reading up on this medication and it does say it can cuse stomach pain in children. not so sure its the medication though.
Thanks!!

What can I do next?

PB8...you can find it at Mothers, Whole Foods, etc....online. 1-2 capsules a day will do the trick. My kids get one nearly everyday...and are far more regular and healthy...without ANY stomach pains. I open the capsukes for this little ones and dump it into their mouths - our 2 year old asks for it. Our 7 year old swallows it. Tums will destroy the stomach long-term. It's the same things as chalkboard chalk.

How old is he? I would still get him into the Dr soon, to find out what is causing it. I would do the pro-biotics too, have him try Activia or a similar yogurt product with it daily. I imagine it could be low fiber thing, Our daughter had similar problems about age 10 for over a yr and we found out this was the issue after seeing a ped. gastro specialist. She was a very picky eater too and was put on probiotics and a fiber med that cleared up things in a matter of weeks. Hope this helps.

my almost 3 year old daughter was complaining about stomach ache-s recently..I called up my pediatrician's office and asked for the nurse (they are usually available to answer any minor questions) she asked me about her daily diet and suggested that she needs to drink more water! my daughter was infact slacking off in drinking water..she would take two-three sips and then dump rest of the water in plants. so yea, I would give him more water..prune/apple/orange juice whatever the picky eater would like if its a poop problem..and call up the pediatrician.

Please take him to the doctor before trying other things. You can't appropriately treat his stomach issues if you don't know exactly what's causing them.

If TUMS aren't helping, chances are, Mylanta won't either.
Zyrtec could be the issue - you may want to talk to a pharmacist and see what they recommend, if it's a common issue. According to the official document approved by the FDA when it was still a Rx medication, in children under 12, abdominal pain is a common side effect along with sleepiness (somnolence).
Here is the document, search for "adverse" reactions.

Remember, your stomach is actually quite high in your chest (between your lungs), so if he's complaining about pain in his abdomen, it's more likely an intestinal issue - perhaps something as simple as mild constipation and bloating.

Good luck!
