What do you put in your kids' stockings? My girls are 3 1/2 and 1 1/2 years old. (obviously the younger one won't understand what's really going on) I'm thinking a candy cane, maybe some little cars or dolls, stickers. Any other ideas?

What can I do next?

I like to put fun Bandaids ( we usually buy plain ones) or a new toothbrush, Hair pretties, snacks like fruties or indiv, packets of goldfish or animal crackers, Batteries for the new toys, That's about all i can think of at that age. maybe those tubes of Fisher price people you can find sometimes.

And i don't wrap most of them:)

Target and the craft store (Michael's) has a great dollar section that always has a few goodies for stockings, like board books, coloring books, stickers, holiday socks, etc...crayons are good, colored pencils for the older one, and paints. Also, I like to put in a DVD, Target has a good selection of toddler/preschool movies for only $5! Oh, and Santa always brings a new tooth brush ;-)

Pictures! My almost 4 year old LOVES looking through photographs and loves to hear all about who's in them and what they were doing. I just made a flip book on snapfish.com of pics from the last year for her. Put together a small cheapie photo album for them. Its fun for you too :) Merry Christmas!

My kids are 5 and 3 1/2 so I got this year some hello kitty underwear, little nail polishes, spin tooth brush and toothpaste and toy keys that have a fog that makes all the car noises (they love setting up the cars to take there dolls on rides). I also do a couple pieces of candy!

I just picked up my stocking stuffers the other day at $1 store and they were along the same line as VM below. I always give band Aids (character kinds), fun toothbrushes, kid toothpaste, gummy vitamins, bath soap, boo boo gels for bumps/bruises. Last year my older daughter had her ears pierced so we included earrings and a Xmas pin for the younger ones. The only big thing is generally a DVD for each of them (Barbie, Tinkerbelle & Elmo are generally what we chose from).

Santa always brings a new toothbrush and a orange in everyone's stockings. Ornaments are great for the small size of hte stocking too. Other than that, just small little toys/trinkets.

For my boys they each get a hot wheels car, usually socks or underwear, maybe a toothbrush, always a book, a little lego set, maybe a bubble bath or small bath thing.
I would add things in that they would use everyday anyways. Maybe a sippy cup or small toy that you wouldn't really wrap up. Lots of little fun toys. Maybe check out the dollar aisle at Target.

First of all, I stocking shop all year long... whenever I see something small, I buy it and tuck it away. Otherwise, I get stuck in December with no ideas that I like ;) The warm weather ones (think sidewalk chalk, bell for bike and bubbles) get saved for the Easter baskets.

Secondly, some things that I have done or will do are socks/tights, watch, flash cards, finger puppets, Terrible Towel (cause we bleed black 'n gold), maracas, CD, hair clips, potato head parts (not the potato, the accessory kits), View Master disks, Thomas trains, slippers, walkie talkies.

Finally, I always do an ornament for each of the kids. My mom always did this for my brother and me. After I was on my own, she wrapped up all "my" ornaments and gave them to me to decorate my first tree. Many of them have a name and/or year, but all are personal in some way - favorite character, sport, activity, etc.

My kids are 7 & 4 so a little older than yours. But I've always done a little bit of candy (they get so much from other family). A book, movie, small toy like a car or doll. This year my daughter is getting a Belle Barbie doll and my son a Pokemon toy. Also some card games and activity books.

Look at Target's Dollar Shop, they have tons of cute things for stocking stuffers.

My guy will be 2 and 8 months at Christmas. I hit the $1 section @ Target all the time and found some cute animals, and a couple of books there.
Do check it out if you can, they have lots of things for little girls.

I also found a $5 Thomas the Train DVD, and they also have several other ones for kids...Hello Kitty, Strawberry Shortcake, Milo and Otis, etc., all for $5 each.

They sell $1 gloves and hats, I bought him a set. I also have a set I put aside of Crayola sidewalk chalk he got in a kid's meal, and a card sized memory game, also from a kid's meal. He's been asking for crayons so he'll get a new box of those and a couple of coloring books from the $1 section. And a new tube of Silly Strawberry toothpaste and a new toothbrush.

Mine are about the same age. I try to put a small baby, sippy cup, little cars that roll, the big crayons, crayon books, bows, the little people from fisher price, and I always buy them an ornament for the tree.

I have a daughter that will be turning 4 in Jan and a nearly 17 month old. I got my 3 year old a watch, a kaleidoscope, a slinky, a box of star-shaped crayons, new earrings (she just got her ears peirced before halloween), some new hair clips, and one of those candy canes full of Hershey kisses for her stocking. My 1 year old is getting an umbrella and the candy cane with Hershey kisses and the same box of crayons as her sister. She just won't notice that she got less in there! I'm having a hard time with present in general for my younger daughter as she has already inherited so much from her big sister!

I'm so glad someone asked this question. My stockings are usually very empty. I love the $1 section idea at Target! I usually do that for birthday bags instead of the little plastic toy gift bags... so, I can't believe that didn't come to mind for stocking stuffers. lol.
You can also do something themed for ex: If you were to buy a doctors kit for one of your children maybe you could get a doctors coat or if you were buying a kitchen you could put pretend food to go along with it, if you have a boy you could put a tape measure and a flash light in the stocking if your buying a tool bench or kit?
Many good ideas already!

My son is 3 1/2 and so far for his stocking I have some magic grow animals that I found in the dollar bin at Target, a slinky, a matchbox car, this claw/grabber thing he saw somewhere and wanted, and playdough. My thought with stockings is anything that will fit. My 1 year old twins are getting slipper socks, a sippy cup and a hat. Clearly they don't know what's going on and these are all things that I could give them now but my son will wonder why they don't have anything in their stocking so I'll save it for Christmas. I'm not a big fan of candy in the stockings. My son will usually want to eat it right away and then forgets about it and it sits around so then I have no choice but to eat it :)
