Stinky Feet and Athletic Shoes

My 6-year-old daughter has super stinky feet! We've tried bathing and even using cleaning wipes. They still stink. It doesn't help that she prefers not to wear socks with her athletic shoes that also stink. Advice on de-smelling the shoes and feet?

What can I do next?

First of all, she's 6, and you're her mom. Don't let not wearing socks be an option. Tell her that with sandals she doesn't wear socks, but when she puts shoes on, they are a must. Make it a rule. Second, I would get rid of the shoes she has and buy new ones. In my experience, you will never get rid of that smell, and even when she puts clean non-stinking feet in them, her feet will stink afterwards just because the shoes are stinky.

hi,
My daughter had the same problem and my Mother-in Law told me about Coral Calcium. It woeked great. Never had the problem again.
You can get it at wal-mart
Hope this helps!

I agree with everything your other moms are telling you but I found a big "hint" for athlete's foot. Buy the cream they sell for a womans yeast infection istead of the stuff over the counter for athletes foot. I bought Momistat 7 and had my boys put it on their feet and got rid of the athlete's foot so much faster and it has stayed gone! My friends husband has had it almost all his life bad and nothing has touched it until using this method. Socks are a must. Get new shoes.

for the shoes, try SoluMel from Melaleuca (available through independent distributors). spray them liberally with the dilute to get rid of the odor. it works on other odors, too. she can also soak her feet in a basin of the dilute (it is very safe on skin and doesn't contain any harsh chemicals). good luck!

We went to preventing it by rotating 2-3 pairs of shoes depending on the season, and always wearing socks. If it's the look of socks she doesn't like, get her the really low ones. They should at least improve. If not, make sure the shoes are drying out thoroughly between wearings. It takes 2 to 3 days for our son's shoes to dry.

My Husband has horribly stinky feet and the only thing that i have found to help is putting Gold Bond Powder in his shoes and on his feet. Sometimes I have him even put it in his socks when he puts them on as well. His feet get so sweaty and stinky sometimes it turns his socks yellow. Good Luck!

socks are wonderful. also baking soda helps with shoes at least

A friend of mine sprays the insides of the shoes with Lysol and lets them dry. I have never tried it, but she says it works very well.

If she doesn't wear socks her feet are gonna stink.
Maybe you could take her shopping and let her pick out some cute socks. Then, make sure that she always wears em.
