Ok I posted a question three days ago wondering if I should go to the doctors since I was coughing, congested, sneezing, and had swollen tonsils. Well the congestion has come down a little but yesterday I started getting the sweats, chills, and even after three days my tonsils are still very swollen and tender. It's hard for me to eat and sleep at night it's so painful. I am also 37 weeks pregnant. My husband wants to take me to the hospital but can't do it until he gets home from work which isn't going to be until after 5 p.m. I have been trying to get an appointment with my clinic but they have been booked solid or closed. My next appointment isn't until the 29th and I know I can't wait that long. I have tried all the remedies like gargling salt water, taking dayquil, eating cough drops, drinking hot tea, taking Tylenol for fever/swelling/pain. Nothing is working and it's annoying to me. I have no appetite and I know I have to eat to keep up the nutrients for the baby. Please help.

What can I do next?

White spots on your tonsils are tell tale sign of strep throat. Good luck getting in to see your Dr. or going to the hospital.

Drink apple cider vinegar mulitple times a day. Drink 1 Tbs straight up - look out it's rough - or dilute in 1/2 c of hot water - sip like tea. I just got over sore throat, swollen lymph nodes and ACV 3 times a day for 2 days worked for me.

When you go to sleep, rub a good amount of Vicks on your neck and wrap a handkercheif or hand towel around your neck.

Check out this site for more nautural remedies - use them even when not pregnant or nursing.

It sounds like you may have strep throat or tonsillitis. IF you have fever and feel like your throat is too sore to eat with red, swollen tonsils!!

You do need to go to the dr.

Hi A.,

Sorry to hear you're still feeling under the weather. If you're feeling that you need to go to the hospital, then don't wait until your next appointment. Our body's are remarkable when we have faith in their ability to heal themselves.

Rest, extra fluids (soaking in a bath tub can help), extra vitamin C (too much will give you loose stools), probiotics (live active culture yogurts are a good source of this but one without added sugars, ie high fructose corn syrup, amino sweet, aspartame, sucralose, etc), Grapefruit Seed Extract, aka GSE(If you have a natural health store near you they should carry this.
http://www.luckyvitamin.com/p-2948-nutribiotic-gse-grapef..., eliminate any added sugars from your diet...sugar weakens our immune system and feeds the virus/bacteria. Were you able to look into a chiroprator in your area?

If you do go to the hospital and find you have strep, they will give you antibiotics to treat this. You'll want to take probiotics daily, watch your diet and GSE is helpful for yeast. Being pregnant you'll want to watch for any signs of yeast infection. This is important because if you're planning to breastfeed, your baby could get the yeast infection and this is called thrush. You and your baby would both need to be treated.

Feel better soon.
Peace,
J.

I would definitely get to the doctor. It does sound like it could be strep since you are having fever and chills/sweats. To help with your throat until you can get to the doc, eat popsicles. The cold can help soothe, and if you get those made with fruit, you might be able to get something other than frozen juice.

I would really not advise to go to the emergency room for a sore throat (unless you have other severe symptoms that require immediate care), but definitely see a doctor. You are more likely to pick something else up there in addition to your sore throat, which would suck, and it's expensive and you will have long wait times.

Call your OB/GYN and see what they suggest. Even though it is not their specialty, they may be able to help you anyways, for example by writing you a prescription for strep throat.

You probably could even go to a minute clinic in a pharmacy, if your have one around where you live.

Go to the dr! Call a neighbor or drive yourself, you are obviously sick and you need get something in you to make you feel better, b/c in a few weeks your little one is going to arrive and you need all your energy to go through labor and be there for him/her after they get here!!!

Did you explain to your doctor's staff your situation and they still won't work you in? Instead of the hospital - you could try a minute clinic because it sounds like tonsilitis or strep - in which case they will know what to do. The nurse there would also be able to call and speak directly with your OB to consult on treatment since you can't get in to see your OB directly. I don't think this would warrant an ER trip unless you've tried other options first.
Good luck and hope you feel better.
