Hello,
I was wondering if anyone owns the Haan Steam mop or the Shark steam Mop? Do you like it, does it work well? Would you buy it again? Would like to cut down on chemicals and thinking it would be nice for the wood floors too.
Thanks,
M.

I looked into a Shark too and was disuaded by online reviews at several sites. Some positives like you've gotten here, but negatives made me worry. Steam and wood don't mix. If I had tile or linoleum I'd go for it, but not wood.

I do not own either BUT while in AZ the house I stayed in had a shark steam mop. I used it every other day to clean the floors while I was down there, so I used it a total of 3 times. I really want to get one but have no use for it (yet, some day we will have wood floors).

Loved how it worked and it did get the floors clean. I can not say for long term use but I loved it the days I used it.

I have a shark steam mop and LOVE it. I have had it for a little over a year and I use it almost everyday. I bought it at Kohl's using a 30% off coupon and it was on sale, I have heard bad things about buying from the informecial... I also bought some extra pads, just machine wash and drip dry (don't use liquid softner or dryer sheets on them!) I use it on my tile, linoleum, and laminet floors. I also use it to clean the doors on my cupboards, shower walls and the top of my daughters little tykes craft table. It takes crayon off in a breeze!!! My linoleum is old and does not have a smooth finish, I used to scrub it by hand to get the little divots clean but no more. If there is a really dirty mark or scuff I just hold the steam on it a little longer...

I have a daycare in my home and was very happy to not be using all the toxic chemicals and have a santitized floor. I actually think the floor is cleaner without the chemical residue building up. You will be shocked the first time you do your floors!!!! Yuck!

The only down side is the cord is kind of short so I just use an extention cord.

Good Luck and Enjoy!

Hi M.
I have the Shark Pro steamer/ mop. I love it. I got it off TV either HSN or QVC I can't remember. It is the larger one that looks like a canister vacuum. I have tired the smaller ones that hold water in a container attached to the wand but I didn't like them. The down fall was that the steam didn't last as long and came out in spurts. The larger one like I have you can have continues steam for 45 mins of just burst. This comes in handy when you’re cleaning. It also comes with a ton of attachments. There is a nook and cranny attachment that is my favorite. I use this to get under the potty and around the screws on the seat. (I have 3 boys in my house)I have also used it carefully on spots on my carpet that I couldn't get out, it just lifted them. I use this piece everyday to do my counters, sink and fridge where stick little fingers and germs get. It also comes with shower/bath attachments, windows, blinds, washable pads for the floor, and more that I can't think of right now. I can't say enough about this steamer. My parents, brother and some of my friends have borrowed it and now they own there own because they loved it so much. One of them cleans houses for a living and uses only this instead of chemicals. I'm sorry to go on for so long but I love my steamer. :o)

I would go with the Haan. I will be buying a Haan this summer too. I've owned other Shark products in the past, and they don't hold up. I bought the smaller vac when we lived in our apartment, and a sewing machine. They were broke or just didn't work as well after the first year. I most recently bought the hand held Shark Steamer, I was very disappointed that it didn't get hot at all. I returned it and will never buy another one of their products again. Go with the Haan. Check the reviews online too.

I did purchase the shark steam mop. I was not impressed at all. The other big downfall is the cord getting in the way as mine is electric. Good luck

I too bought my shark at Kohl's also and love it. It works great (for 2 years now), and I have no problem whatsoever with the cord. Like you said, I no longer have to worry about chemicals on the floor. With 3 cats I always worried about them getting floor cleaner on their paws and then licking their paws. And with the kids, the floor dries so fast I don't have to worry about them slipping. I also have had the shark dust buster for 4 years and love that too.

We love our little shark for our linoleum and tile. We do squirt a bit of cleanser onto the kitchen floor before steaming the really scuffed spots (from the chairs), but overall, we are very pleased with it. So much easier than the mopping or old fashioned hands & knees method! The first time we used it, it took a while for it to start working, but then it took off. I haven't tried it on my wood floors yet as they are old and the finish isn't so good anymore :) We do vacuum/sweep first too, to pick up the fur and misc. so the pad doesn't collect all that stuff.

I have the Haan steam mop and I love it. I would use it every day if I could but I'm so busy -- I use it about once a week. It's so easy to use and it does a great job. I really like that it sterilizes as it cleans and leaves no residue. My entire house has wood floors, except tile in the kitchen. I had the Shark steam mom first but felt it was a bit flimsy, plus you had to pump the handle to get the steam. There are quite a few reviews and opinions out there on the web. Looking over many I decided to return the Shark and ordered the Haan from QVC. The Shark was not horrible, but for about the same price the Haan was a better deal. I would never go back to mopping the old fashioned way!

I like my steam mop but cannot use it anymore. Found out the hard way...our kitchen and bathroom are the linoleum floors-individual squares that you peel off and stick. Well, after steaming the corners are peeling up and I've had to take superglue to them. Just don't use it on this type of floor!

I love my Shark steam mop! I have linoleum and laminate wood floors and it works great on them. The only complaint I have with mine is it does not get into the corners and the edges of the floor as well as I would like. Mine is older, so maybe they have improved the design.

We recently had wood floors put in our home and were told by the installers that a steam mop should NOT be used on any wood floor unless the floor is stained and sealed AFTER it is installed. Otherwise there are unsealed areas (where the flooring has been cut to fit) where the steam would be able to get into the wood and make it expand and eventually could cause mold.
