Lately, my 2 year old has been going "ewwww" when he poops his diaper and today while we were brushing his teeth, he said "peepee". I sat him on his potty and he got up, then sat himself back down for a minute or so. But then I put him in the bathtub right after that and he peed. I'm thinking he's ready to start potty training. My boyfriend is wondering if he should let him watch him pee in the toilet? lol Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks!

What can I do next?

We potty trained my 2 yr old in 2 weeks! we started by taking her every 10 minutes the first 2 days. sometimes she'd go, sometimes not, but still you HAVE to take him every 10 mins, then every 20 mins for 2 days, then every 30 for 2 days and then every 1 hr.....if you can dedicate a whole week to potty training, i think you can get it done in 1 week or less. when i first sat her on the potty she looked at me like i had 3 heads until i sat on the toilet and peed too lol so i think it's a good idea :) good luck!!

Yes let him watch a male pee. Just do what you are doing - when you go also have him watch him but it really helps to have him be in there with your boyfriend because that is how "big boys" do it.

My son was 3 when he finally showed interest. We tried the toilet, sitting down, and he showed no interest in it. We actually let him pee standing up like daddy (he was just tall enough) and it was great. He was trained in 2 days, and it was summer time, so if we were outside we let him go in the back yard too - and it really helped us and train him (and he's 5 and doesn't think the back yard is the place to pee either - if he's outside and has to go - he goes inside).

Good Luck

Sounds like he's ready! I have a thought/suggestion, and I don't have boys so others should probably chime in.

Little boys potty train by sitting down when they pee, right? So, really, he should be seeing you pee first. Frankly, I've been peeing in front of my 2yo for a while, as has her older sister. It seems the most obvious way to let them know the way it's done. Once your son is peeing in the potty sitting down, your boyfriend should probably start demonstrating the standing method. Unless your boyfriend is will to demonstrate how a man might pee sitting down. Frankly, that would probably be the most helpful.

I think it's definitely helpful to have him watch an adult go to the bathroom.

I have twins and the one that is more interested in the process has watched both myself and my husband go. My husband has done it both standing and sitting. My son will usually sit down to go, but every once in a while he wants to stand at the "big" potty and go. I just put a stool in front of the toilet and stand behind him so I can make sure he doesn't fall. I'm usually the one taking my son to go potty so I'm probably not the best person to teach him proper aim technique when he does stand though. :-)

It's probably a good idea for him to have practice sitting anyway for when he needs to poop. Plus if you get a potty with a front pee guard, you will have less mess when he is first learning. I always wondered what to do if my son has to pee and poop at the same time...just sit or stand to pee then sit to poop. Then I had a relative tell me a story about how her husband took their son to the bathroom when he had to do both and had him stand to pee first. While the kid was standing and peeing, the kid pooped. So now I know I'll have him sit if he has to do both. :-)

Yes, he should let him see him pee, and poop and wipe and wash his hands.

As far as potty training goes, he is showing signs of readiness, but know there's some more. Check out the lists to see if he is TRULY ready, or you may be on here a few weeks later saying he's not "getting it" ; )

Some of the "signs" are learned behavior, so put a potty in the bathroom now, (or a seat on the toilet) and have him take him in there with him when he goes, so he can see him pull his pants down, sit, wipe, pull his pants back up and wash his hands, all part of what he will need to know to become potty trained. Don't make him sit at first, but let him learn the steps until you feel he can mimic from what he's observed, by then you should have figured out his "times" he needs to go pee and poop and can sit or stand him at those times. I've found the more pre-training you do the easier the training is. And to be consistent once you begin.

I did the cold turkey method. Took the diapers off, showed them how to use the potty chair. Lots of accidents, but they get automatic feedback on when you pee, you get wet. I think kids sometimes don't even realize when they're going if they have a diaper on.

I kept my dd on the floor as much as possible for cleanup. I also put sheets over the carpet. It was a hassle, but she picked it up quick.
