My husband started a family website for us about 2.5 years ago when my daughter was born. Our family and friends loved it with all the updates and pictures. Well, it hasn't been updated since Christmas and I understand...my husband has been so busy at work and just helping with family b/c I'm about 5 months pregnant now.
I thought about taking over this responsibility, but this exact website was designed by my husband and is far too advanced for me. I just wouldn't have the patience right now. I'm a SAHM and I'd like to try to help start a new website, but I have no idea which ones are fun, friendly and I hope somewhat easy to set-up.
I'd love to get some suggestions on which websites/blogs are pretty simple to use, but are also full of fun options too. I'd really like to find a FREE site if possible too. Thanks in advance for all the help. I need to get started soon b/c I can't take many more questions from my extended family about when they will see new pictures, diary updates, etc. :o)

Google Blogger...it is SO easy to use & there are tons of free background templates, buttons, etc available online.

They're just like using a word editor to add your updates and images. If you husband is technical - he may be able to import your old site into one of these. Good luck & congrats on the baby. I'm due in November, too!
we use www.blogspot.com by google. It's free, you can put permissions on it so you can make sure only your family sees he blog (not the entire world) and you can post pictures and/or video. I figured it out pretty much on my own, so it's not that difficult and it may have many other features that I just don't know about. Good luck.
We have a family blog through blogspot.com... it is super easy and you can make it as detailed or simple as you like. There are lots of websites and other bloggers who can do a pretty layout for you and really all you do is write and upload pictures. myfamily.com it requires a moderator (you) and you invite people to join. this way it is completly private...
I like blogger. It is very easy to use. I can upload pictures easily and I can make it private and just add the readers I want to read the blog. I have been using blogger for a couple of years. My husband just started me a wordpress blog but that has been so complicated for me to use that I hardly write on that one.

Congrats on the upcoming addition to your family. I have one suggestion, I update pictures ONCE a month. that way I can keep up with what pictures I have published or not. The way I look at it, once August starts, I canNOT take pictures for the month of July. that has worked out well for me.
I also found www.smilebox.com you can grab a group of pictures and even video, select a style and music and it makes a nice presentation that you can send to friends and family. I like to do that in between monthly pictures and for especial ocassions like a birthday, special outing, etc.

We use babyhomepages.net. They have already made templates or you can customize and make your own.
I use www.easysite.com for our family website. There are numerous templates for your site that make it extremely easy to use. They do have a free version, but you can upgrade for additional features. I upgraded my site and I'm only paying about $5 or $10 a month. You can have pictures, videos, recipes, message board, chat room, news tabs...all kinds. You can also link it to your own domain name if you already have one.
I use www.blogspot.com too! It's easy and they have a tutorial or faq in case you have questions.
We just use Facebook and post all our pics of our little one and family. It's great bc all of my family is on it and you can specify who you want to share certain things with. It's easy to use and upload pics and you can put comments on them/receive comments. you can also chat too which is nice bc I chat everday with my siblings that live all over the country and they love looking at what we are up to everyday as we update our status' and pictures. It's not as high maintenance as having a blog and you can also connect with so many people you haven't had contact w for a while bc its easy to find friends/people on there. Thats what we use and its free!
