Star Wars Theme Birthday Ideas

my son has requested a Star Wars birthday party this year to celebrate turning 6, does any one have any ideas on activities, party favors, and where to get a star wars cake? i looked online and found a place in Schaumburg that does custom cakes, i was thinking of having them do a R2-D2 cake, if they can. any help would be great, his birthday isn't until August but i think some planning ahead is in order.

My son had a Star Wars party last year. I made a light saber cake. I just baked a 9x13 cake and cut it up. Happy to e-mail you pictures. Games: ring toss onto plastic light sabers, pass the wookie(like hot potato with a star wars wookie figure)and pin the chestplate on Darth Vader(this was a purchased game). Good Luck,

S.

My son had a Star Wars party when he was 4, and then again 2 years ago when he turned 7. The 1st one was pretty simple. We made light sabers with foam pipe insulation tubes and duct tape, and I used Star Wars rings to decorate cupcakes. When he turned 7, we had an awesome time since we made it a costume party. My husband was Darth Maul (thanks to a great makeup job by my SIL), I was Padme, My daughter was Queen Amidala, and my son was a young Obi Wan. His bday is in May so the costumes were pretty cheap, mostly from ebay. I also got Jedi training books with light saber pens for the favor from ebay. Most of the kids that came (and a few adults) wore a costume, but we had muslin and rope to make a quick Jedi tunic for the couple that did not. One activity was putting a pic of Princess Leia in a balloon and inflating it, and then throw it and about 20 empty balloons out to the kids. They had to rescue the princess by popping the balloons to find her. Another activity was getting to have a light saber duel with Darth Maul. For the most part they had fun on their own playing in their costumes. I always make my own cakes(or cupcakes), so I just made a couple of 13x9 chocolate cakes and painted light sabers on with frosting - it was really easy. Have a great time!!

We're planning the same type of party for my soon to be 6 year old...I got a few great ideas from the Star Wars kids page: http://www.starwars.com/kids/do/. The website refers to "The Star Wars Party Book Recipes and Ideas for Galactic Occasions" which I would love to get a copy of but just haven't had the time.

The plan right now, is to make a Death Star pinata, do a hunt in an asteroid field (balled up aluminum foil with prizes/candy inside), and make up a bunch of light sabers out of pool noodles. I'm still on the search for special treats (my son hates cake) so I look forward to reading other posts!

I have gotten the BEST cake with a Star Wars theme at Dairy Queen. It is an ice cream cake, but the guy was able to take any picture like a plate or napkin and project it onto the cake it really looked good. My particular cake had the Star Wars logo on it then we put those chunky galactic hero guys on it. I got the cake at 63rd and Main street Dairy Queen in Downers Grove. I'm sure he could do R2D2. Good Luck and I hope there are no Dairy allergy's :).
