Stand Mixers

I am trying to decide what kind of stand mixer I should get. I think I've narrowed it down to the KitchenAid Artisan and the Hamilton Beach Eclectics( which is $100 cheaper but is reviewing great from what I saw). I haven't looked at all the mixers, but I do want something that will last, but I don't want to spend more just for the name. What kind should I get? Any advice?

I have a KitchenAid Artisan - I love it! It makes kneading bread dough & cookie dough so much easier!!!
I got it while it was on sale - which was worth waiting for!

I don't have an opinion on the HB, but I can give a ringing endorsement for the KithenAid. I have two! I have a large one that I bought cheap at a yard sale because the prior owner had stripped the motor. Who knows what she did to do that, because they are wicked powerful motors! I paid her $20 and paid $50 for a new motor. It is still running like a dream. Even better than that, I inherited my grandparents' KitchenAid that they had for as long as I can remember. It think it is about 40 years old. It is still running like a dream. My mom and my sister both have KitchenAids too. My mom has had hers for about 35 years and hasn't had to replace the motor, despite three kids who were avid bakers. The one bit of advice I can give on selecting the model you want is this: pay for extra power (not capacity) if you intend to mix stiff cookie dough. Some of the larger KitchenAids have smaller motors and bigger capacity and I don't feel like they are as good a buy as a strong mixer. Good luck!

Ok, so I have a KitchenAid mixer as well. Not sure if the Artisan model or not. I love it for the most part, but I do have a big negative, or at least I think so. I don't like the fact that you can not lift up the beaters while still having the bowl in its spot. You have to disconnect the beaters in order to get the bowl out which can become messy. So my suggestion would be, it to spend the money on the KitchenAid mixer that you can lift up and then tilt back. I would probably use my mixer more often if mine did that. Well, who am I kidding...hehe...I don't really cook much but I like to have the stuff so it looks like I do. hehe. But honestly, I would probably use it way more if it did lift up. My sister has one that lifts and she loves it. Have fun cooking!!

I love to bake and have/love the kitchen aid mixer. I have had it for 3 years with no problems. Easy to clean, it is heavy (but that is a good thing), many different speeds, I could go on.

Hi S.-

I love my Kitchen Aid Mixer. I got it as a wedding gift almost 15 years ago. I keep it out on the counter and I use it at least 2 to 3 times a week (if not more). I do not know about the Hamilton Beach mixer. I would say that the Kitchen Aid is worth the money if you know it will last for 15 years!

Hope this helps,
Annemarie

Get the KitchenAid! I used to sell home appliances on eBay, and I can assure you that the KitchenAid will last for DECADES. Its a heavy duty motor in the KitchenAid, the HB one is not a heavy duty motor.

You will not regret the additional $100 if you use your mixer on a regular basis (esp. for heavy things like bread dough).

I'm a cake decorator and make icing all the time. I wouldn't dream of using anything other than Kitchen Aid. I'd suggest the 4 1/2 or 5 quart over the 6 quart. The contents doesn't always get mixed thoroughly in the bottom of the 6 quart.

Kitchen Aid sets the standard and really can take a beating.

I also work for Wilton Brands. I host training for cake decorating instructors and we only borrow Kitchen Aid mixers because they are reliable.

Good luck with your purchase.

I love love love my Kitchen Aid! I had to save up for it, but it was well worth it. It is an Artisan (5 qt. I believe) and the beaters do tilt back to remove the bowl. I use it all the time for everything!
I don't know about the Hamilton Beach--I knew I wanted a Kitchen Aid, so I never even looked at anything else!

Hi S.,
I have a KitchenAid and my mother has Hamilton Beach - I love my mixer - I use it A LOT! My Mom does like her mixer but she wishes that she spent a little extra and got the KA brand - she does a lot of breads (soft and hard) and told me that she didn't think the HB would last in the long run. Like I said, she does like it and it does the job but she just isn't sure that it will last in the long run. My hubby got mine at Costco, at a substantial savings. If they have the one you want, I would get it there if you have a membership.

Get the KitchenAid. It has a longstanding history. I love mine bc/it's so versatile!

FYI--I got my Artisan in a closeout color six years ago, and it was at least $100 cheaper than the new colors. I was looking for Empire Green anyway!

Again, I love my KitchenAid.

If you're concerned about price, I've heard that it's possible to find refurbished used KitchenAid mixers that don't cost as much as brand new. My hubby had already bought mine when I heard about it, so I don't know anything else about how find them.

Just a recommendation--make sure whichever model you buy has a large enough work bowl to meet your needs. Attachments are available for the KitchenAid as well, and those can be helpful, but can sometimes be a little troublesome to use.

Good luck!
