Stair Gate for Iron Railing
Hi moms-My daughter is so close to crawling that it is time to start to babyproof. I am looking for a recommentation on a stair gate for a stair railing made of wrought iron. All of the models that lock and swing, which I know if recommended for the stairs, seem to work only with wood banisters. Has anyone had any luck or any suggestions? Thanks, Amy

in our first house we had similiar issues not a iron bainster but a wide entry to the stair and i couldn't find anything that would fit. after much looking ad buying and returning i was given a reccomendation for a child proofing company they come out to your house and do it for you, they know all the products out there and will find one to work for you. the price was not outrageous and the piece of mind it gave me was well worth it. after a near fall i just broke down and called them. the er bill wouldve been more than the cost of installation. this is who we used there are many of these companies out there if you do a google search. safety matters

I had Protective Parents Childproofing come out to my house and make recommendations for babyproofing. They go through your house room by room or just areas you are concerned about and leave a list of recommended products. You can buy retail from them, even ordering online and install yourself, or they can install for you if you are short on time. protectiveparentschildproofing.com
Good luck.

We have a rought iron railing so my husband screwed a swinging stair gate into the rought iron at the top of the stairs and secured it. Its really the only option. The free standing gates can fall if pushed on, so that wouldnt be safe. If your husband is handy, he can secure it to the rought iron.

We bought a gate mount kit when we put our gates up because we did not want to drill into the wood railings we have. All they are is a piece of wood that attaches to your railing and the gate would then attach to that wood. I found the kind that we have online and it says it can be used on wrought iron as well as wood banisters. Here is the info:

It was really easy to install and it has been up for almost two years now in my home and it is VERY STURDY. I have not had one problem with it.
Good luck!
