We are at the stage of having our 6 month old trying solids. She likes them but still is quite messy; thus, we have veggie-stained everything...bibs/clothing/spoons/feeding trays, etc. What is the best and safest way to get these stains out? Thanks!

So What Happened?

I bought a bucket of the OxyClean Free at Walmart. WOW...it got everything clean in the wash. I won't do a load of baby's clothing without it. Thanks for everyone's help with this!

Totally Toddler works really well on clothes and Clorox wipes or just soaking them in Dawn dishwashing liquid for everything else.

OxyClean is the magic stuff for baby stains...either poop, spit up or food. Depending on how bad the stain is, you can choose how to treat it. For mild stains wash off any/all loose food and then wet the area in warm water. Then grab a little handful of oxyclean and rub it on the stain. Let it soak in and then wash in warm water. Also, I often put a little in the general washing machine if the clothes have been 'worn' with mild stains and then do an extra rinse at the end. For worse stains, I soak them in a small container with warm water and a fair bit of oxyclean. I then swirl the water around a couple times a day until I see the stain go away. Most will go away within a day of being treated in this way but really stubborn stains may take a few days. I personally have never faced a stain that hasn't come out using this method. It seems that they start mild and then the stains just get worse and worse the older the kids get!!!
Good luck!

As for the stains on bibs and clothing, soak them in OxyClean or OxyClean Baby. But for the plastic, I don't know what will work.

I use Oxy-clean in every load of my wash, Cold water to Hot, I think it works great. Problem is if you already have washed and drier something that had a stain on it the stain may have be set permanently in the drier.
Another thing you can use on you whites is something called Bluing. Check out this website: http://www.mrsstewart.com/pages/stainremoval.htm
I am not sure when you say plastic food trays if you mean the high chair tray, if so Scour off by Shaklee cleans great. It has taken coffee stains off my counter with no heavy scrubbing. See web site: http://www.shaklee.com/00430.html
Shaklee does make a Super Microfiber Dish Sponge, have never used it but all of Shaklee products are outstanding. See website: http://www.shaklee.com/50411.html

I am not involved with selling shaklee products, I just think they have some good cleaning products that are safe dor our enviroment. If you would like a distributors name where you can buy these products direct instead of off the internet I will be glad to share a name and number with you.

Have a Blessed Day,

I use the stain spray that Dref makes. I haven't found anything yet that it won't take out.

As I read the posts you have received a lot of ideas for the stains on fabrics. My advice is for the stains on the spoons and other plastic feeding items. I had these same stains when my sons started the solids. It sounds strange but I soaked spoons and bowls and even the plastic stoppers for the sippy cups (stained from some juices as they got older) in water with a denture cleaning tablet. It worked great and obviously there are no harsh chemicals like bleach or anything because they are designed to clean items that go into the mouth.

i remember this...i felt like i spent my whole life pre-soakinga and washing clothes. Your best bet is to rinse out any excess food right away, so all you have left is the stain. Then soak the clothes in a bucket of OXYclean for 24 hours. They have a baby friendly oxyclean of you are worried about chemicals and such. You can find it at Target, Costco or any of those types of stores. Then after you soak it, wash it with the rest of her clothes. I sometimes throw another scoop of Oxy in the washing machine just for good measure. I've had a permanent bucket of clothes soaking for 6 months now.... good luck!

Hi J.-- I would try the Dreft detergent for babies... also from here out I would invest in the Plastic bibs that are really LARGE and cover the total front of baby and some of them even have pockets at the bottom to catch food. This really worked for me when my daughter was young and I never had "stain" problems because she never got stains.

Hope it works for you as well.

The sun bleaches the stains right off of plastic. Just place her tray out in the direct sun after feedings, it gets the orange right out. I have stopped caring about the bibs-they're made for stains! BUT I find that if you wash them out immediately and then spray them with SHOUT that really helps. Also, couldn't do w/o the bleach pen. Also, I have gotten into the habit (at home anyway!) of just stripping my dd down w/o even a diaper and feeding her that way. It's nice because then her bottom gets to air out--I fold a couple cotton cloth diapers and put them in her seat in case she pees--you could use an old towel. In addition you could presoak all the stained stuff with some Borax in cold water. I NEVER put anything in the dryer until I have double checked that the stain is out. Once you do that, it's cooked in forever. HTH!

Spray and Wash. I use it on everything and it gets all of the stains out. If im not washing it right away, I use the stick on the stain first and throw it in the laundry basket, then as Im loading it in the machine, I spray every stain again to be sure. It's color safe and my whites came back Bright white every time even with carrot and pea stains. I love it and now they have a formula for stains which have already been washed and dried into the clothes.

I have found that there is a remarkable product used in Dishwashers, it is called plastic booster by Cascade, any dishwasher liquid can be used in hot water in washer to get rid of stanes. First put in dishwasher liquid then hot water then the clothing as this is a thich liquid & needs to disolve or it will discolor what it gets on but it WORKS !!

Hi J.. I was so worried when my daughter went through this stage. For her messy eating habits try shout... found in the laundry aisle. It is VERY useful and works wonders! Good Luck. (and yes I use shout on my daughters tray to remove food stains too)

J.,
I was having the same problem. We started using Oxiclean baby (we have found it at Babies-R-Us and Target). It's gentle for his skin but gets the job done! We also was her tray with Clorox multipurpose wipes. They have bleach to kill germs but it's safe enough to use between meals.

Good luck!

Greased lighting w/bleach is good for plastic food trays and utensils. Spray and Wash w/resolve and also Oxyclean are good for getting the food stains out of the clothes and bibs. Just make sure the utensils and food trays are rinsed thoroughly. Hope that helps.

As an almost obsessive compulsive, I do a lot of face wiping while feeding the little ones, this prevents stains in first place. Wait until she tries spaghetti sauce foods, they put something in that which leaves a stain on face and plastic bibs but it mysteriously disappears after an hour! I also recommend plastic bibs rather than cloth so they can be more easily wiped. Do not leave the food anywhre where grabby little hands can reach it. Finally, since the bibs and trays don't touch babiy's face, use whatever, Sray and Wash, soapy dishrag. Oh, and 6 mos, use that spoon to wipe up the food she's pushed out of her mouth to her chin and put it right back in her mouth.

Try spraying the stains with Shout and then soaking the bibs, clothes, etc. in baby Oxy clean before washing. That's gotten many stains out of my son's clothes. Bibity pocket bibs are great too! They come clean well, are big enough to prevent lots of stains, and are water proof!

Try Totally Toddler spray, it works great!! I have gotten many baby stains, grass stains, even ketchup out with it. Only
Babies R Us sells it though but you can buy the gallon size and it lasts a while. Wal-Mart used to sell it but haven't seen it there for a while but it is worth a look since the closest Babies R Us that I know of is in Schaumburg.

To remove carrot stains from plastics like spoons and trays leave the item on a sunny windowsill, or outside in a sunny spot. Haven't tried this with fabrics yet, but it totally works for plastics.

Oxy Clean Spray!!!! Can't live without it. You don't even have to put the clothes in the wash right away - or spray it on the stains right away - and the stuff still works. Amazing!
