Stain Removal - Riverview, FL
I am looking for suggestions for stain removal. I have a 4 month old breastfed baby who is pooping all over everywhere and I can't get it out of her clothes or my carpet (from dripping down her leg). I have tried spraying her clothes with stain remover immediately when I take them off of her, but that doesn't seem to be doing the trick anymore. Any suggestions would be appreciated on how to get these stains out or how to prevent this from happening at all.

I also have a 4 month old breastfed baby. We moved up to a size 2 diaper and that helped. For stains, I keep a squirt bottle of Clorox 2 and water handy. It's about 2 ounces of Clorox 2 (it has to be Clorox 2 so that you can use it on colors, too) to about 3 or 4 ounces of water. Squirt it on the stain as soon as possible and let it soak in for 5 or 10 minutes. I squirt on some warm water (or throw it in the washer if it's clothing) and rub with a towel. This has gotten every stain out so far.

Hi B.,
I breastfed both of my boys ages 11 months and 2 years, and I know there is not much you can do about preventing this from happening breastfed babies digest the milk faster. Good news there digestive track will get better and around 5 or 6 months when my boys started cereal it was not so messy any more. As for the stains I found that "kids and pets" stain remover worked for the carpet but not much I did worked for the clothes, my friend said it was because I did not use hot enough water when washing their clothes. Anyway I hope this helps a little. Thanks -N.

A couple of suggestions, as my daughter was also BF and we had some of the same issues.
If her weight is close to the next size up in diapers, try buying her the larger size and closing them snug on her. For stain removal, try Resolve carpet cleaner. Rinse the clothes as much as possible, apply and wash. It may take 2 washes, but it did the trick for us. We tried the Dreft Stain Spray and it did nothing for her clothes.
Hope this helps

I have found that baby oxi clean stain remover works wonders. I have a 20 month old who loves to play outside, and a 5 month old who is breast fed. This is the only product that has worked the miracles for us. It has saved quite a few clothes from permanent stains. For tough stains I let the items sit over night in a washtub with the oxi clean, and flip the item a few times prior to washing. I HIGHLY recommend it. I found it at Target next to the Dreft baby detergent. I hope this helps.

I had good luck with Shout. I know the commercials are corney - but it really works. When you take the clothes off the baby, rinse them out in cold water and then put shout on the stain (drench the stain in shout). rub it in really good and then wash the clothes immediately. I used one of the baby laundry soaps when my daughter (my little pooping machine) was your daughter's age. Her clothes looked brand new when she out grew them.
For the carpet, I recommend using OxyClean. Follow the directions on the container. Another product with corney commercials - but it really works. It removed hair gel that was said to stain permanent from a white carpet (the ones with the wild colors - namely paranoid red - the color my son chose for his little experiment). It takes time and work to remove the stains, but it does work.
Hope this helps.....

The Mr Clean bleach pen works AWESOME! I used it to get out old stains and new ones. So far, it's worked on them all!

Oxiclean works wonders! Don't just throw it in the wash though. Take the clothes and put them in a plastic tub (I use a small storage type tub) and put in a concentrated amt of Oxiclean with HOT water. Let them soak for several hours. You can also make up a spray bottle of concentrated Oxi for your carpet. Test an inconspicuous spot first though for color fastness, but I've never had a problem.
If you still have stained clothes and you haven't put them in the dryer, you can try the Oxi. If they've been dried though, I'm not sure if it will work.
Unfortunately, BF babies are notorious for blowouts. I've been thru 2 boys now and Oxiclean always did the trick. Sometimes moving up a diaper size will help, but not always. Good luck!
