I am a single mom of four wopnderful children. My problem is my 8 yr old. She has ADHD and is bipolar, because of her mood swing (she can get very voilent at times) she is not aloud in daycare because she needs to be restrained. Well We keep getting denied for ssi and i keep losing jobs for lack of someone who can handle her so i can work. does someone have any idea on how i can take care of this or maybe get the ssi for her to help supliment the income i do not recieve.

What can I do next?

I am a para-educator in a school district that works with kids of special needs. There are programs with in the school district depending on where you live, Sounds like she would be able to qualify for special education, where she can get the help and staff to be able to work with her so she is not missing out on her education. I also have a son who is 16 that just qualified for the Special Education program, it took a few years but it is better later than never, and she is still young. I would call your school district to set up an evaluation process, and see what they have. As a single mom there are alot of resources out there for you, it just takes alot of time and effort on your part to be persistant. There is one resource that I know is very good at helping you get help. They are The Pacer Center, they advocate for people with family of special needs. There web site is www.pacer.org I hope this has been helpful in some way.

Good Luck

Have you tried a personal nanny? Try to fins someone who specializes in children with special needs. It can be costly-but sometimes you can find someone who doesnt need to make much-a stay at home mom or something. Hope this helps.

I would suggest getting some help through your doctors office, perhaps they can help you get your daughter into some programs that can help. They have tons of resources! Otherwise see if you can get some help with a social worker, being 8 your daughter is in school during the day, perhaps a consulor at the school knows of programs! You have to get out there and hunt for them, but there are lots of places to turn for help. Another option would be to speak with local colleges for students going through school for "Special Ed teacher" perhaps they could watch your daughter for you and they will have the training and such that is needed. Plus they can be paid cash and might not be as expensive as day care! Good luck I hope you find the help that you need!

You might try the Disability Law Center--it's a division of legal aid, in downtown Minneapolis. I know that they have attorneys that deal with issues like this. The website is http://www.mndlc.org/

My son has ADD, and I tried for SSI, and was denied and I had the same problem, he was getting kicked out of daycares. In school they gave him a IEP, with a team of professionals that look out for him during school, but also had alot of good resources for me, like DR"s and meds, and the school provided a before and after school care, knowing his special needs.
Contact your social services as well and tell them in detail what you have been experincing. Reach out for help and resources.

My son has ADHD, anxiety disorder & a "yet to be determinded mood disorder". He does recieve SSI. They said it deffinately helps to have 3 to 4 doctors with the same "disgnosis" on record. My son has been seeing a mental healthcare provider for a year and a half a pediatrician, and a peds doc at the university clinic who specializes in ADHD. He has quite the record as well... being kicked out of daycares and causing me to lose my job. Now we are battling with the school system. Did they send your child to be evaluated by an SSA approved doctor? The theory I saw someone throw out that it takes three denials before you'll get approved is inacurate. It took 4 months to recieve a decision but he was approved the first time. Just make sure all of your doctors are on the same page and know that you are going after SSI, they may be able to help you obtain it. Keep records for yourself and document as much as you can as to how her disability limits her, medication changes, problems at school. I had kept documentation for a few months before I applied and all of that got sent with the application as well.

Is your child in school? You should talk to Social Services because you should be recieving help from a PCA (Personal Care Assistant), for your daughters daily needs. Talk to your doctors and have them help you contact the proper departments. You may not qualify for SSI, but I know of several others with the same issues (Children with behavior diagnoses) and they ALL have physical help at home. The PCA's should be with her all the time and then you wouldn't need to worry about daycare. My friend has a daughter with BP and she has a PCA everyday and a couple evenings a week and one or two weekends a month. They don't qualify for SSI, but they recieve help from Medicare that pays for her insurance and PCA's. She attends mainstream school, but in a special ed class. I think she may have a PCA that attends with her. You could probably get alot of this information from her Psycologist, if she has one.

I'm wondering if she is on or qualifies for medical assistance/TEFRA since she's a child. Do you have a county social worker? If she's on ma, then a personal care attendant PCA can be hired and paid for. My youngest is on ma because he is profoundly disabled. I work and have health insurance for rest of family, he has both ma and private insurance. I pay a small parental fee for ma based on my income. Good luck to you!

I've heard for ssi disability you automatically get denied like 3 times or something and usually need a lawyer to help you win! This is just what I've heard.
