Spotting/light Bleeding During Pregnancy

I just wrote a post earlier about being 5 weeks pregnant and not having tender and sore breasts. A couple hours ago I experienced some spotting then turned into light bleeding. The blood is light red so far and I am afraid it might get heavier. Is this a sign of complication or miscarriage? I am going to the doc tomorrow but I can't sleep thinking what could possibly be wrong. I never spotted or bled with my first pregnancy so I am very anxious to know what is going on.

I can't help but put one and one together with having no pregnancy symptoms to now having light bleeding, I just have to think the worst.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?™

Thanks for everyone's response. Just got back from the doctor and unfortunately my baby did not grow much and did not have a heartbeat and I am 8 weeks along. I also started bleeding more heavily today. I will see if my body will finish the miscarriage or I will have D&C done in ten days.

I dont want to scare you but i should of been 7 wks pregnant. When i was 5 wks pregnant also my 2nd pregnancy (first one had no complications at all) started spotting when i just wiped. then week later it picked up a little to wear i had to put a panty liner in my panties. So Last sunday i went to the ER about it (i was so worried) they did 2 ultra sounds one vaginal and then the other kind. There was a baby but had a faint heart beat and my hormone level was 2500. Then i had a doctor apt. wed. (of this week) and had a ultra sound and the baby was there but had no heart beat. So my doctor thought i was having a miscarriage. so me and my husband wanted her to check my hormone level to be sure and it had dropped to 1500. So Wed. i had to take the abortion pill to get it out since i wasnt spotting anymore. So i hope thats not your case and good luck:)

When my sister had spotting/bleeding, her baby was fine and is now a healthy 4 year old. With mine, it was a miscarriage both times. I pray that all goes well for you dear.

If it gets heavier or bright red I would go to the ER.

I am currently 33 weeks pregnant! I spotted red blood for 3.5 weeks during my 1st trimester of this pregnancy, but also had absolutely none with my first pregnancy, so it freaked me out! I had two ultrasounds during the spotting and both times the baby was just fine :) I wanted to give you a positive outcome story b/c spotting/bleeding during pregnancy doesn't always mean a miscarriage. I read that 25% of all pregnant women have spotting/bleeding during the 1st trimester and while 50% of those have miscarriages, the other 50% go on to have healthy pregnancies and healthy babies!!! Just remember that God has a plan and I wish you the best!

It could be many many things. If you are worried or concerned about it to the point you're losing sleep, call the ER. They will page your doctor and have the doc call you. See if it's something that needs to be addressed tonight or if it can wait until tomorrow. Good luck! :)
