Spit Up - Cranston, RI

Hello, my 9 mth old son has started spitting up again after he drinks formula. Is he supposed to spit up still? It seemed to stop for a while, but it's come back. He doesn't spit up a lot, but enough where I have to clean it up. Is this common???

What can I do next?

My oldest spit up until he was nearly a year old. They Dr. told me as long as he's growing it's perfectly normal. Some babies just have reflux.

It could be acid reflux, or just that he's more active, also is he eating more than usual when he spits up? My daughter has been spitting up since she was born, and the only way to prevent it is to pay attention to when she starts to seem full, (and make sure she burps) cause she will overeat and have to spit up some. Also gas bubbles, can make them do this. Defanatly talk to your doc. and make sure it's not medical, but don't stress to much it happens for many reasons. GOOD LUCK!!

Hi J.

I would definatly bring it up to your doctor just to make sure it is not acid reflux. My son is now 11 months and has acid relfux so if you wanted to now about any other signs of reflux just let me know. Also is your son on a milk based formula? if so maybe the milk is bothering his tummy. Good Luck.

My son spit up until he was a little over a year old (coincidentally, when he was more upright than crawling or lying down). His esophagus flaps need to mature. I switched to soy formula and started adding a little cereal to thicken (which also means buying nipples with larger holes).

It could be reflux. Just a thought.......

If you are concerned about it, you really should tell your dr. My son did the same thing, and is now 5 years old...and still has a problem with acid reflux. I diagnosed him myself because the dr's would not listen to what I was telling them. They said he would just grow out of it, but never has(it isnt as bad as when he was an infant because he doesnt drink as much milk now, but it is still there). Your son might have reflux. I can remember having to constantly wash his burp clothes because I was continuously wiping up spit-up. I notice it seems to worsten if he has too much milk or too much juice, but we try to control it with his diet...I have not heard good things about being on the medications.

I found that true with my son too. Is your son more active now?? Crawling?? Cruising?? If so then it is perfectly normal...or atleast that is what I was told from my pediatrician. He outgrew it completely once he started to walk...only occasionally when is super excited right after drinking does he spit up a little. Hope that helps. Good luck.

he may have a little bit of reflux.. call his ped and ask if you should give him something.. if it's not a lot, he may just grow out of it.
