I live in a small town and my best friends live right next door to me. When my son was born they decorated my yard with baloons and an 'its a boy' sign. They own a florist and are really creative, so it was fantastic. Now they are expecting their first any minute and I am looking for ideas of something I can do in return. I've looked in to renting a sign, which would work, but I was hoping someone out there had an idea of something a little more special. They went all out for me and I want to return the favor. I am SO not creative. My husband is very handy and is pretty artistic. Any ideas?

What can I do next?

Do a birth announcement! Than if you want you could have candles or some kind of figurine around the announcement. Or do what they did as long as its not raining or too windy you could put ballons out all over after the announcments deliver or jus tdo the announcement and than get her some baby stuff she will need like diapers and oncies and towels and wipes an baby cream and shampoo and put it all to gether in a bowl or basket. They have these bowls at michaels you can fill sections with stuff ther plastic you could go to bulky foods and get sweetarts in like pacifiers and blocks and bears and filleveryother section with it than fill the basket with all the stuff listed. Give it to them when they come home.

They gave to you of themselves...and what it is that they enjoy... Do the same for them. If you are NOT artsy - then do what it is you are good at. Perhaps you make the best lasagna on the block or your choc. cookies are too die for... Perhaps coupons for babysitting, etc. It doesn't matter what you do...just do something that is you and don't try to upstage or out-do what they did for you. It is not about matching or out-doing gifts - it is about giving from your heart. I'm sure that anything you do will be appreciated and they will be grateful for your love and support.

Try "Flamingos by the Yard" in Novi...They are great for birthdays, but they have other packages, including 'new baby' too.

for instance, when my boss turned 50, they came (in the middle of the night!) and put 50 Pink Flamingos in her yard along with a 'Happy Birthday' banner. She never quite forgave me, but she'll never forget it either!

have fun!

L.; i would think some simple ribbon tied all around the bushes into cute little bows would be cool, also you can make a sign with some poster board and some colorful markers, if you want flowers all around, you can always buy fake ones, you can also when they come home bring them some dinner, or do something totally different, make them some lasagna so they can eat when they are ready, just have fun, and enjoy D. s

You say that your husband is pretty creative and handy. Could he make a sign to put in their front yard? I rectangle with pictures on it would be good, however if he's really creative maybe he could cut it out in the shape of a stork or something. Maybe add the name and birth day of the baby. I know that you can buy signs at party supply stores as well, so that might be an easier option. Instead of using balloons, or with balloons, maybe go to a dollar store and get a bunch of baby rattles that you can hang from trees or other objects around the yard. If they are all different rattles, then they have something that after a bit of washing they can actually use. Just a couple of thoughts.
