Soy Formula Problems

I'm seeking advice or information about babies on soy formula. We are supplementing our son with soy formula because of excess gas. It seems to have helped that, but he now has solid bowel movements, and is only 3 months old, and I have read a lot of negative information about soy formula. Any advice?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?™

My son is 4 months now and doing great! No more solid bowel movements! The pediatrician recommended that I drink more water, as I was still breastfeeding a little. That actually helped. I had no idea that I was that in need of more water that much! But all is well now!

Soy can actually tend to cause gas problems. If this has helpe to relieve it this is great. All three of my children were on soy due to a milk intolerance. The last being colic. The soy product I used for the first two was horrendous-caused constipation, upset tummy, you name it. The last one was wonderful. We never had an issue with hard BM's
Nestle Baby Formula Good Start Supreme with Iron DHA & ARA . Consulting your pediatrician helps a lot though. They are really used to us mothers calling them when we are new, if they are irritated and become hard to deal with than find a pediatrician that can suit your needs:)

We supplimented(I was breastfeeding as well) our daughter with Similac Isomil Advanced Soy Formula during her first 12 months. Our daughter did really well with combination breatfeeding/soy formula. Where did you read the negative info????
We didn't have your problem until she started eating solid foods so you might want to talk with your Ped. You will probably have to try a different brand of formula.
You said your supplimenting with Formula, so how much formula is he getting a day??? That could be a clue on why he is having solid BM.

I JUST spoke to my pediatrician yesterday about constipation and her advice for my 2 month old was to try 2 oz. of water. I think your baby is old enough to introduce juices though, but I wouldn't know how much is safe.

Have you ever tried the gas relief drops?? They really seem to help, plus I know there's a stronger gas relief prescription your doctor can prescribe. I'm sorry...I can't remember the name of it. As for the solid poops, put a tiny bit...like 1/2 tsp. of either mineral oil or flax oil in his bottle. It lubricates his poop so it comes out a lot easier. As for how solid it is...that's unfortunately just the soy, and will stay that way unless he's on something different. I had these problems with my second child. I hope this helps you.
