is 8 - soon to be- 9 months old and gives me a hard time when it comes to putting on her diaper. It's difficult and time consuming to have your 8 month old rolling around while you are trying to strap a diaper on her. Any advice on how I can perhaps make her more aware of the process or keep her still?
I think every parent has gone through this. I had to change mine on the floor and use my feet/legs to hold the upper body so I could strap the diaper on. I got pretty good at it, so it no longer took forever or made me quite as frustrated. You'll get through it.
Give a toy to hold on to. talk to her tell what you are doing tell to hold still so you can get done quickly. Good Luck

Make eye contact and talk and sing to her.
Try giving her a colorful toy that she normally wouldn't play with. It may interest her just enough so that you can change a diaper.
Give her a small toy to occupy her, and then be REAL quick at it. It helps if the "toy" is something new or that she hasn't seen in awhile. Even give her the lotion bottle, or the wipes container, they love it when they get to hold the stuff that is normally off-limits. You could also try keeping one of those "nursing necklaces" near the changing table. Good luck!
Distract her. I used to sing to my baby at that age. Now I ask her where her body parts are. You can also try giving her a toy. Mine gets occupied with the wipes container. Although now she goes after it all the time pulling the wipes out. Good Luck!
That is very typical age for them to get squirmy ;) I always use the wipees container, the crinkly bags- seems to always work for all babies I had to change. I've started giving my son his bottle first to drink (he can hold his own bottle) and then change his pamper while hes drinking. Thats worked really well. Also talk to her about what you are doing or better yet make a song out of it the sillier the better of course =) Make sure you have everything you need b4 you start and be quick about it! There is so much too see and so little time lol.

I hung a mobile over the changing table. Yes, my son grabs at it and pulls on it and such, but I'm right there to make sure it's safe and it keeps him looking upwards.
very common....I give my DD some toys to play w/ to keep her busy. i also hung something for her to look at, a soft lamb, now that she is older she talks to him about her day while I change her....
I sat on the floor and had to put my feet on the kids arms to hold them down. No paci, toy, book... nothing else worked! Every now and them staring into his eyes while singing or talking to him helped, but not always. Just keep telling yourself... it's a phase!
Try a special favorite toy that she can only play with when she's having her diaper changed.
I always kept a few "change table toys" in the drawer - toys that my kids only got while they were being changed. It worked like a charm!
They do get wiggly at that age! Sounds strange in describing, but with my boys, I had to sit on the floor to change them. Lay them down on their back, and you gotta sit with your legs on their shoulders (sort-of pinning them down) so their upper body is secure. with practice, you can change them in less than 12 seconds, and they are up running again!
Put her in pull-ups. That way she can stand up while you put the new one on! My girl was the same and went into pull-ups at about that age. She would stand and hold my shoulders while I slid the new one on. Worked like a charm. She had to lay to remove the stinky ones but you just rip open the sides so it's not messy.
Who's to say that pull-ups are only for potty training?
I used to give my daughter (also Sophia :) either the tube of diaper cream, and wipe, or some toy that she thought was interesting enough to hold while I was changing her. Distraction is what worked for us
give her anything, toys, books, cell phone anything noisy to keep her attention. i learned how to change her diaper backwards/on her tummy..you may wanna do that if you haven't figured it out already. just make sure you're prepared and have all your necessities before you begin the process.
No, in my experience most babies fight you when you're trying to put on their diaper.
I always engagge my baby with big smiles and talking. And,I usually hand the baby a toy right as I start to change the diaper to keep her busy. These things help tremendously with changing a squirmy baby. Mine are past that age now, but that's what I did.
Can she stand yet? If so, transition to pull-ups! It will make your life and hers a lot less stressful!
